    Description

Retaining the features that made previous editions perennial favorites, Fundamental Mechanics of Fluids, Third Edition illustrates basic equations and strategies used to analyze fluid dynamics, mechanisms, and behavior, and offers solutions to fluid flow dilemmas encountered in common engineering applications. The new edition contains completely reworked line drawings, revised problems, and extended end-of-chapter questions for clarification and expansion of key concepts.Includes appendices summarizing vectors, tensors, complex variables, and governing equations in common coordinate systemsComprehensive in scope and breadth, the Third Edition of Fundamental Mechanics of Fluids discusses:Continuity, mass, momentum, and energyOne-, two-, and three-dimensional flowsLow Reynolds number solutionsBuoyancy-driven flowsBoundary layer theoryFlow measurementSurface wavesShock waves

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I used this book for a class and thankfully the professor presented us with a page and a half of errata. Most are tensor notation errors and are noticeable only if you try to work the math out as you’re reading or trying to understand something. But some actually do compromise understanding, like the incorrect writing of the stress tensor. Fluid mechanics is about details and if you don’t have access to a list of the errors, it might get really frustrating to learn from this book.Errors aside, it’s a great summary and I turn to it often if I’ve forgotten something. The explanations are decent and it’s pretty clear to read. Really nice reference pages in the back summarize the equations in all coordinate systems (that matter).

⭐This book is perfect for a graduate level fluid mechanics text book. It covers both inviscid and viscous flow. Currie proves the equations with a great level of accuracy. This book is an ideal companion to study for a qualifying exam. This is probably the most thorough graduate level text on fluid mechanics. Currie takes the time to prove everything very accurately.
