    User’s Reviews

Editorial Reviews: From the Author John and I love writing and updating “Fundraising for Dummies” because we have a great sense of purpose about this book: It’s very much needed! In the three editions we’ve done so far, we’ve been able to provide simple, clear how-tos (and lots of examples from experience) that show people how to gather and grow support for issues they care very much about. It’s a hopeful work! The idea for the book came about in a conversation with a number of fundraisers for small organizations; I thought, “Wow, if we had some kind of toolkit that covered all the basics, fundraising wouldn’t be so overwhelming for people who have to figure it all out themselves.” So I approached Wiley, they liked the idea (thank goodness), and John and I started working on the first outline. That was more than 10 years ago! In its current version, which was released in March 2010, John and I completely updated the book to include fundraising ideas for a tumultuous economy–how can you keep your fundraising strong when times are tight? We’ve also updated for the web-based communications, as well as the huge social media waves that are sweeping the world–what a great opportunity for getting your message heard by the masses! We hope you find lots of good ideas in this latest version, and we’d love to hear from you if you have comments or ideas you’d like us to cover in the next version! Cheers, and happy fundraising! Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I am in the process of starting a community-oriented nonprofit arts center. I have never started a nonprofit before, so I’m brand new to everything. I bought this book after I read The Nonprofit Kit for Dummies, which is a really excellent book. I didn’t like Fundraising for Dummies nearly as much. I may like it better once I’ve had more experience with fundraising, but I think it’s a bit over my head as a newbie. They dive right into all of this complicated information about various types of campaigns and wooing donors, and I think I would have appreciated a simple section on fundraising for brand new organizations. Also, it was written in 2009 at the height of the recession and an awful lot of the book is colored by language regarding difficult financial climates. This isn’t necessarily bad, but they start right off with this which kind of starts the book on a downer. I’m sure I will refer back to this book in the future, but it’s not terribly helpful now.

⭐I bought this book because I was unexpectedly “promoted” to fundraising chairman for a nonprofit agency with which I volunteer. Truth be told, I had no freakin’ idea what to do when they asked me to take the position. I had no experience whatsoever with fundraising, but the group I work with was in a tight spot after the old fundraising chairman got a new (real) job and had no time for volunteering anymore. So I bought this book, and I’m darned thankful that I did. If you’re new to fundraising, this book won’t give you the answer to every question you’ll have or the solution to every problem you’ll encounter, but it does a nice job of laying out the basics and providing you with the info you’ll need to get moving. I’d recommend it to anyone who’s just starting out with this sort of work. It’s a solid, well-written guide that you’ll want to hang onto for a while.

⭐This author wastes pages upon pages discussing and reminding the reader of the state of the economy in 2009. This issue requires one page of writing explaining that even if the economy sucks, you need to put your big girl panties on and ask anyway. The book contains some good advice wrapped in insecurity and dated tech tips. Would not recommend until a revised edition comes out.

⭐A very comprehensive, actionable, well-explained overview of various aspects of fundraising. Great for a board member, volunteer, or a new professional to the industry of development.

⭐I wanted more of a GoFundMe book. For fundraising or charity it is excellent, not what I needed.

⭐Lots of start up info. Good reference

    ⭐Much needed info

⭐This is just insulting to professional fundraisers. There are many more effective options by Kay Grace, Ken Burnett, Gene Tempel, Gail Perry, Penelope Burke and many others …

⭐This book is great for those new to fundraising, however I am not too keen on the fact is has alot of american info therefore irrelevant info. But it has helped me a great deal with the plans for a new career.

⭐Excellent book, covers so much but does that mean I am a dummy?

    ⭐Excellent

⭐Great item and very efficient service. Thank you
