Description

This book changed how I write! —USA Today bestselling novelist Susan May Warren”Absolute gold! Want to sell? Here are the major tools you’ll need as a writer.” —Novelist Hannah Alexander”Hack Your Reader’s Brain is the first book I would suggest novelists read before or during writing. Jeff has broken the power of fiction down to the very basics of how good fiction actually affects the human brain, how it makes us feel if we do it right. Other writing books contain some of these points, but Jeff explains not just the how but the why. I don’t know if every author who follows his advice will write a best-seller, but he/she will write books people will read, talk about, and remember! Bravo, Jeff!” —Lyn Cote, USA Today Best-Selling Author of over 40 novelsWhen we write fiction, we hope it will be effective. We hope it will thrill our readers. We hope they will be engaged. What if you were handed a tool that took the guesswork out of it and changed your hoping to knowing? This is that tool. The human mind works in predictable ways, and neuroscience has explained the brain chemistry behind them. I found myself nodding in agreement, relieved to have also found solace in knowing I wasn’t alone in my frustration. His approaches to catching the reader’s attention are doable. And, as a writer, I was engaged and excited about what I was reading…exactly what a bestseller should create.” —Christa Allen, novelist”Hack Your Reader’s Brain puts a new spin on the novelist’s age-old struggle to write a book readers simply can’t put down. With clear-cut steps on how to captivate a reader’s attention from the first line and hold it until the very end—along with the reasons those methods actually work—this short book is one of the best tools for novelists I’ve come across. I know I’ll be referring to it again and again.” —Carol Cox, author of the Arizona Territory Brides series

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐This is a really great book that explorers the craft of fiction but also how to make a book compelling. I have personally been exposed to Mr Gerke’s material in a conference setting and on several of his craft of fiction books and they are of the highest quality. This entry is well worth it and I am personally grateful I’ve read it.

⭐I’ve had the pleasure and privilege to take one of Jeff Gerke’s writing workshops and this book distills his writing gold wisdom into pure form. This is the answer to all of us, as authors, groan when some poorly written book gains unbelievable popularity.I’ll be using and returning to this s gem of a book as I write abd rewrite

⭐In tjis book , you are not as focused on craft, but on the science of writing good fiction. Jeff takes you in to the neuroscience of writing , where you learn to cause the oxytocin of the reader to rise when they are faced with surprise or danger. Of course, the old standby, adrenaline keeps you pumped as you get through the meat of the story. And finally, GABA and tryptophan when you are satisfied with how things are wrapped up.I have learned a lot from Jeff, but as this book describes it, it’s not as much the rules of the craft, but keeping the reader engaged, that count. It sets you free, a bit because you are writing with a purpose l, which to keep the reader engaged. Definitely a more interesting pursuit.

⭐I really enjoyed Jeff’s book. I bought it after meeting him at a local writer’s group. I found his discussion very helpful so I elected to buy the book. It’s very engaging and an easy read. It is short but content rich. I enjoyed the beginning, which compared “normal readers” to more “editorial judges.” That analysis helps we budding authors figure out how to engage our potential audience and keep them reading our work. He articulates a sense of what we already know on attracting readers in a way authors can actually understand and use. I highly recommend it!

⭐I’ve read through this twice now because each time I feel like I’ve entered the Inner Sanctum and had all of the secrets of the universe revealed to me– okay, at least the secrets of writing engaging fiction. It makes so much sense.I highly recommend.

⭐The concepts went over in this book were pretty simple but definitely useful. It’s pretty short and to the point while still being really helpful.

⭐Every fiction writer should give this a read. It’s quick and full of excellent insight. I don’t think I’ve ever highlighted a book so much.

⭐I’ve read a lot of books on writing so many that i’ve created a best of collection in my kindle so i can refer to them easily. This one definitely goes in that category along with Jeff’s other book, Plot v Character. I wish i’d read them first. I wouldn’t have needed to buy any others. Explains what makes good writing and tells you exactly how to do it. Couldn’t be better.

⭐This is a great break down of the core elements needed in constructing a story using brain chemistry to show you why!a very interesting read.
