Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐After decades of apartment living, and now having moved into a house, I was embarrassed every time our contractor or a neighbor or a colleague used words I had never heard, like water hammer. This book oriented me to my house and taught me how to take care of it, even though I won’t do most of the jobs myself. It turns out that even if you want to hire people to do handy jobs that I would mess il if I did them myself, you need to know what jobs to hire people to do. The book has the refreshing comforting style of the dummies series: great for people who are expert st some things but entirely ignorant of the topic we buy these books for. A must read if you own a home.

⭐We have owned our home for about 7 years now And keep coming across stuff that we didn’t know we should maintain so I thought this book would help. It really didn’t at this point in our life. This is more for the person who is just now buying their home.

⭐Scoring this at 2 because it is just too intense for most homeowners and DIY enthusiasts. A perfect example is a section on replacing a water valve. The reader, it is assumed, knows little to nothing about plumbing and what to do when a shut off valve leaks or no longer works properly. However, when it comes to installing the valve, the reader is told to “solder the valve in place”. So, you don’t know plumbing, but you do know how to solder properly? Great intentions from the authors, but the book gets far too deep for most, and those who understand the complications don’t need the book.

⭐Reference manuals are pretty much the only books I buy. I like the Dummy books because I’m a dummy. My wife has a Chrome book (for 3-4 years and likes it because it’s small, she can use it in bed handily and easily take it with her. Unfortunately, this dummy (me, not my wife) has to “fix it” when unexpected things happen – like icons disappearing. This book has never let me down.

⭐Really good for young homeowners. Gave it to a friend, wish I had something like this when I had my 1st home. It’s fairly rudimentary in most parts, I found the septic/plumbing helpful.I would have appreciated this as a gift when buying my first home.

⭐I actually feel like a dummy for ordering this book. Just a bunch of fluff ridiculous don’t buy.

⭐Book arrived quickly and in great condition. I was hoping for some real in depth maintenance related information but the book is excellent for the average DIYer who is just picking up their tools and trying to make a go off fixing small stuff around their home.

⭐If you are a homeowner, this book is extremely helpful. My husband read through it and there are things we had no idea we should be doing. I definitely recommend this book. I am a huge fan of the Dummies books anyway as they have no dog in the fight and just give you straight up honest information.

⭐Authors American and seems orientated to American homes, eg cleaning products refer to borax which is not available in UK.I was looking for a DIY book which this is NOT. Perhaps my error but even considering that I think its not really for a uk audience.

⭐This an American version and irrelevant in most part for the UK

⭐Well there are lots of practitcal and useful tips for anyone and everyone who wants to try things for themselves.

⭐Given as a present apparently very useful

    ⭐Gives the basics
