While studying in France, she traveled around Europe, and became curious about the German language and culture. After graduating with a teaching certificate and a degree in French, she decided to return to Europe to study German. Her love of the Alps inspired her to live in Munich, where she spent 30 years. During that time, she studied German, completed her MA in French at Middlebury College in Paris, and later learned Spanish in Spain. Her professional experience includes teaching Business English, German, French, and intercultural communication skills, as well as writing and translating. She recently returned to her New England roots, where she works from her home overlooking a spectacular salt marsh that constantly beckons her to go kayaking, walking, bird watching, and swimming. Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐Ok, let’s admit—not everybody can teach grammar so it is readily comprehended, AND interesting! We all sat glossy eyed in classrooms as our teachers tried to dissect our native tongues and were, quite frankly, either bored or perplexed. This author manages to do the nearly impossible—enlighten us on all things concerning German grammar, and explain it well. This is not your beginner’s book, but is superb at dissecting even the odd bits of speech other grammar books might not approach. I am very pleased with my investment in this book.
⭐just right ffor those brushing up on their schoolroom language lessons
⭐Using this book builds your confidence in no time. The time you do spend using this book will pay off down the road. You can go through this book in any order you choose.Plenty of exercises with the answers.
⭐I’ve got a couple german grammar text books I’ve stuggled through the first chapter of (well, almost). This book somehow makes it fun, or at least takes away the pain and boredom while pointing out common mistakes, and giving great tips. I look forward to sitting down and practicing my grammar – wow.
⭐It’s hard to say what this book is. It is easier to say what it is not. It’s definitely not a course book, though it has some of its features (units called chapters, (selective) teaching focus) or a grammar book, though it has some very good explanations, tables and a (very) few excercises. If you already have everything you need to learn the language (a course book, dictionary, grammar book, graded readers, vocabulary cards, phrase books, etc.) and you still have an uncontrollable urge to buy something that might help your advancement in language acquisition and you want to buy something both entertaining and enlightening, choose this book. You won’t get disappointed.
⭐Good intermediate book.
⭐It`s fun. Looking for a “Romance Novel” German-dual language(perhaps High School level.Thanks..or nnot high school level..dual lang…
⭐This book is my go to book when I need a plain explanation of some twisted German grammar I struggle to understand. It is definitely not a beginner’s book to learn the language. But once you get the basics and are ready to actually learn how to speak properly, this is the book to come back to for grammar next to a dictionary for new words. I had to go through A1 and A2 courses for this book to be useful to me. Also, it is not exactly a read through book. It’s more a reference for you to read the exact part you’re currently interested in. Said that, I highly recommend it to anyone trying to learn the language beyond the basics of “Hello. My name is Barbie. I like Ken.”
⭐I bought this to brush up on my very rusty German prior to an extended trip to Bavaria. I had never bought any of the ‘For Dummies’ series previously, but went for this on the strength of the very positive reviews submitted by other purchasers. I have to say this is the best Intermediate Level German grammar I have used. It contains clear explanations for some of the frustrating subtle nuances in the German language, and has helpful hints on regional dialect variations. Particularly welcome are the explanations on colloquialisms, and how the meaning of words and phrases can change quite dramatically according to context. There are lots of little exercises in each chapter for practising what you have learned, and the whole is presented in a cheerful friendly manner, making learning the language a pleasure. Highly impressed.
⭐I still failed my exam, but that had a lot more to do with my disinterest in the subject than the actual book. The book is great.
⭐An excellent aid to understanding German grammar. A comprehensive book which explains the various elements in good detail and tests understanding. Thoroughly recommended for students studying basic to intermediate german.
⭐I used it to refresh my german and I found it very helpful. It gives practical details of the language and is also funny. I learnt things that after years od studying still didn’t know.
⭐great deal thanks
