This book deals with 2-spinors in general relativity, beginning by developing spinors in a geometrical way rather than using representation theory, which can be a little abstract. This gives the reader greater physical intuition into the way in which spinors behave. The book concentrates on the algebra and calculus of spinors connected with curved space-time. Many of the well-known tensor fields in general relativity are shown to have spinor counterparts. An analysis of the Lanczos spinor concludes the book, and some of the techniques so far encountered are applied to this. Exercises play an important role throughout and are given at the end of each chapter.

⭐The ultimate and perfect book on spinors is Penrose and Rindler’s book “Spinors and Spacetime.” It is encyclopaedic, but it isn’t very easy to work through. I was hoping to get a much shorter book to set all the easy physical contexts before me so that I could have wonderful insights and do Penrose Rindler much quicker. This is a very good book. It is mercifully concise. It contains very good insight physically (geometrically). I find that because it treats the derivative formally, it doesn’t have all the nice little insights I want to have. I want to sit back and see what the covariant derivative of a spinorial object looks like (feels like, smells like) in all cases, and I still have to do that for myself. It isn’t all just written out like a comic book. I suppose we ought not really want comic books at the level of graduate formalisms. It would be entirely churlish to complain about the book, even though I would like a quicker path to true insights.

⭐This book is a very nice overview of 2-spinors, with all the necessary formulas derived clearly and presented in a nice format. This is a huge help, because most of the other treatments I’ve read are either scattered across many different papers, or throw in too many details when all you need is to remember one of the basic formulas. Even Penrose and Rindler (the other obvious reference) isn’t as useful as a practical reference.
