Description

The approximately one-third new material in the Sixth Edition of Introduction to Personality, reflected in both content and organization, is in response to the exciting, prolific developments that have occurred in the last decade in personality psychology. Many of these advances in the field directly impact our understanding of the nature of personality. They include discoveries coming from diverse sources: behavior genetics, social evolutionary theory, trait theory and the Big Five, social cognitive theory, cognitive neuroscience, and findings at the interface of personality and social psychology. This revision is intended not only to make the book timely and up-to-date but also to capture the promising new directions the field seems to be taking at the turn of the century, while offering the reader a perspective to understand the essentials of personality.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Personality psychologists have basically shown their field is BS like phrenology or alchemy. They literally hold up as major findings that trait based systems don’t work in a scientific sense. At best, they’re crude heuristics primarily useful for evaluating first impressions and systematizing problems. At other points, they literally put forth negative correlations, zero correlations, and insanely small correlations as supporting rather than refuting claims that are obviously false to anybody who as ever been around humans before. It seems they’re unaware of any possible logical structures beyond linearity. There’s some great stuff on evolutionary, genetic, and other biological influences on personality and behavioral conditioning. Too bad the author is clearly biased against what was described as a logical, analytical approach to the field. Much of the later half of the book is new age pseudoreligion nonsense.

⭐I bought this book for a personality class in college. It is not the best psych textbook that I have ever read, as it is kind of dry and some of the explanations are repetitive and a bit too simplistic, but it is overall a decent introduction to the theories and research behind personality psychology.

⭐It’s a super-simple read– not too exciting, and sometimes the concepts are so simple that it was almost frustrating. It was the textbook for a college psych class… probably would have been appropriate for a more introductory level, high school class. I sold it immediately after the class was over…

⭐Pretty comprehensive overview of personality concepts.

⭐Goof quality.

⭐I got it on time to start my Theory of Personality class! This book is really easy to read. Great book!

⭐Good price on a school book

⭐As expected

⭐Really enjoying this text. Very diverse and inclusive as well as straightforward and easy to make sense of. I would recommend this to anyone seeking an introduction to the concept of personality.

⭐Perfect condition.
