Description

Statistical physics is a core component of most undergraduate (and some post-graduate) physics degree courses. It is primarily concerned with the behavior of matter in bulk-from boiling water to the superconductivity of metals. Ultimately, it seeks to uncover the laws governing random processes, such as the snow on your TV screen. This essential new textbook guides the reader quickly and critically through a statistical view of the physical world, including a wide range of physical applications to illustrate the methodology. It moves from basic examples to more advanced topics, such as broken symmetry and the Bose-Einstein equation. To accompany the text, the author, a renowned expert in the field, has written a Solutions Manual/Instructor’s Guide, available free of charge to lecturers who adopt this book for their courses. Introduction to Statistical Physics will appeal to students and researchers in physics, applied mathematics and statistics.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐This is a cut up version of Huang’s Statistical Mechanics book intended for an undergraduate audience. The book is filled with mathmatical errors (or a lot of misprints) and grammatical errors. The chapters are only 3-4 pages on average with absolutely no insight or examples. The problems range from very easy to out of the scope of the book when you go from chapter to chapter. If I could have rated this book a negative value I would have. If you are looking for a starting point for Statistical Mechanics I would look somewhere else because this book is completely useless as far as I am concerned.

⭐This is a very good book for undergraduate physics students, it illastrates all the important concepts in thermodynamics and statistical mechanics with well quanlified exercises. However, the face of the book is more or less broken during the shipping.

⭐Finally a good book about thermodynamics and statistical mechanics. With this book I’ve finally manage to understand statistical mechanics. All the explanations very clear and without the presumption that you are an expert already.

⭐nice book for upper undergraduate . For graduates ,Statistical mechanics by same write is more appropriate (in my view)

⭐It is not explaining physical phenomena, it is just giving a list of equations and short definitions. A big disappointment for a student.
