Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I heard the author on a talk show. The book sounded interesting & I bought it. The concept of Buddhist philosophy was not something I was familiar with & I found it interesting and thoughtful- a concept I am trying (not always successfully) to incorporate into my life.

⭐Such a wonderfully written book! Explains complex teachings in a practical and user friendly way. Uplifting words and full of stories to illustrate Buddhist teachings. The words are filled with Dr. Boorstein’s humility and warmth.Read it- it will help you navigate the welcome and unwelcome.

⭐I first read this book when I checked it out from the library. But I soon knew I wanted my own copy to turn to over and over. I have read many profound books on Buddhism and appreciate them all. But “It’s Easier Than You Think,” has been the most comforting and encouraging to me, so far. Some reviewers have mentioned the author’s stories are too much about herself and her experiences. But that is exactly what makes this book so special. I absolutely relate to ‘my bench’ and the ‘grape bubble gum’ and ALL the stories. I’ve been there, you’ve been there–and those are the very things we deal with in a day-to-day life. Buddhist practice can help us with all these thoughts, feelings and emotions that make up life–cosmic doubt! Sylvia Boorstein, I love that you have shared these honest and intimate stories with us and I read and re-read them, each time gaining more insight, feeling more confidence and compassion. This book helps my mindset to feel peaceful, leading to clear seeing. It IS easier than you think. And, I also laughed.

⭐I was expecting something different, although I’m not sure what. Instead, this book turned out to be what I needed. It reminded me of the 4 Noble Truths and the eightfold path. It did this in simple language and taught me some things to start working on. Recommended.

⭐4/19: So a coworker told me to report this to Amazon, which I did, and they shipped a replacement at no cost. My faith in humanity is restored, and I will surely pay it forward. Thanks “Monika” at Amazon, for making my day! :-)I was so excited that this book arrived today, and was looking forward to starting it tonight. When I went to retrieve the package from my mailbox, I found an open mailer envelope, and the book was gone. I was so heartbroken I cried. I don’t really like reading on a Kindle device because I’m on a laptop all day. I’ll head out to B&N for another copy this weekend. Just so disappointed, but moving on. :-/

⭐Sylvia Boorstein’s It’s Easier Than You Think: The Buddhist Way to Happiness actually does the opposite of what the title states.Boorstein wants to illustrate the main precepts of Buddhist practice and understanding, but she also wants to show what an actual spiritual or religious life look like on the ground. A spiritual path does not solve your problems; you will not be a completely different person after you embrace a spiritual path than before. Buddhist practice will slow down those natural tendencies that you have. It will give you the ability to r***** your natural reactions to situations, especially those that cause pain or stress, and examine them in a differently. In this way, a spiritual or religious path is actually harder than we think. We still grapple with our old selves. We still strive to defeat our terrible impulses. But we do so with a mirror held up to them, and the tools to try and defeat them.

⭐This is the book that changed my life. I love Dr. Boorstein’s way of speaking to the intelligent lay person about what it means to be happy, present, even a Buddha in this very body and lifetime. She talks about the importance of a good marinated mushroom recipe, Halloween candy, and burning bushes; ethereal yet grounded and rooted in diurnal activities. Each chapter is between 1-3 pages, so it’s great to read one a day and ruminate on it for 24 hours before adding more knowledge to your toolbox. I’m forever grateful for this book, and have given it as a gift to many people over the years! (I first read it in my 20s; now in my 40s, it’s just as relevant. It always will be.)

⭐One of the best discussions of the 4 Noble Truths of Buddhism out there. Ms. Boorstein is a delightful storyteller and her vignettes addressing the points of Buddhist teaching are approachable and understandable to anyone. I have used this book as a teaching aid for new students of Buddhism for that reason. They love it. You will as well. Her discussion of the 3 1/2 Noble Truth explains a point so important in the development of any new student or practitioner of Buddhism. So often people think Buddhist enlightenment is something magical, a quick zap of lightening and one is capable of walking through walls or something equally amazing. But life is not like that and Ms. Boorstein addresses this point eloquently and approachable by all.

⭐Excellent condition

⭐Makes you more aware of self and of others. Enjoyable and down to earth reading with practical exercises, easy to follow

⭐interesting

⭐Have given this book as a gift several times. Not preachy or pretentious. A good, reassuring read – confident and sensible. Enjoyable over all – and gets you thinking. I recommend it.
