Description

This book presents direct and concise explanations and examples to many LaTeX syntax and structures, allowing students and researchers to quickly understand the basics that are required for writing and preparing book manuscripts, journal articles, reports, presentation slides and academic theses and dissertations for publication. Unlike much of the literature currently available on LaTeX, which takes a more technical stance, focusing on the details of the software itself, this book presents a user-focused guide that is concerned with its application to everyday tasks and scenarios. It is packed with exercises and looks at topics like formatting text, drawing and inserting tables and figures, bibliographies and indexes, equations, slides, and provides valuable explanations to error and warning messages so you can get work done with the least time and effort needed. This means LaTeX in 24 Hours can be used by students and researchers with little or no previous experience with LaTeX to gain quick and noticeable results, as well as being used as a quick reference guide for those more experienced who want to refresh their knowledge on the subject.

User’s Reviews

Editorial Reviews: Review “This work is a great option for people who want to quickly and efficiently learn how to prepare a document in LaTeX. Every aspect of writing a document is presented with enough detail to cover the preparation of a thesis, a scientific textbook, a research article, a conference presentation, a poster, and other relevant works. So researchers of all levels, from lower to high, will find the information needed to complete their work in style.” (Lazaros Moysis, zbMATH 1447.68001, 2020) From the Back Cover This book presents direct and concise explanations and examples to many LaTeX syntax and structures, allowing students and researchers to quickly understand the basics that are required for writing and preparing book manuscripts, journal articles, reports, presentation slides and academic theses and dissertations for publication.Unlike much of the literature currently available on LaTeX, which takes a more technical stance, focusing on the details of the software itself, this book presents a user-focused guide that is concerned with its application to everyday tasks and scenarios. Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I am disappointed. The “Look Inside” shows the text with colored highlighting for the various functions. I thought this was a great feature, but the paperback edition does not include the color. I’ve checked back on the listing and I was unable to find any statement that the “Look Inside” pages were from the digital version.

⭐I was interested in taking a technical writing class and this was the required text. The author goes into great detail about several LaTeX packages that are great for structuring documents and adding some nice features, and now I write all of my typed documents in LaTeX and not Word! If you are looking to learn LaTeX this book is the perfect place to start.

⭐When I sat down to write my first LaTex document I found this unhelpful. “Practical LaTeX” is so much better.
