Description

SOMETIMES IN LIFE, IN ORDER TO MOVE FORWARD YOU MUST FACE THE PAST…

In Hopeless, Sky left no secret unearthed, no feeling unshared and no memory forgotten, but Holder’s past remains a mystery.

He is haunted by the little girl he let walk away from him and he has spent his entire life searching for her. He had hoped that he would finally gain closure and be able to rid himself of his guilt the moment they were reconnected. But he could not have anticipated that the exact opposite would occur and even more guilt and regret would be thrust upon him.

Sometimes in life, if we wish to move forward we must first dig deep into our past and make amends with it. In Losing Hope, readers will learn what was going on inside Holder’s head during all those moments that left him feeling hopeless and see whether he can perhaps gain the peace he desperately needs.

⭐ I read a lot of books but I’ve never seen this done before. It’s the same story with many of the same scenes and the same dialogue but from the perspective of a different character. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not totally identical because it’s the POV of a different character so there is originality in the story line, but this is absolutely brilliant. This is what I love about Colleen Hoover – she thinks outside the box. She jumps all over, not necessarily sticking with just one genre, so you never know what to expect when you start one of her books. What you absolutely CAN expect is a wild ride into the land of story-telling, and a book you just can’t put down until you’re finished. Every time I read one of her books I think it’s the best one she’s written. I loved Hopeless. It had me on an emotional roller coaster with my heart physically racing, hormones on overdrive, tears in my eyes, and me yelling out loud at no one in particular. And just when you think it can’t get any better, it does. While I have been a strong fan of certain book characters before, I don’t remember ever falling in love with any of them. I fell in love with Holder. I want a Holder in my life! How does Colleen do that? This guy had my hormones raging through both books! He’s absolutely perfect!! It must be the dimples. I loved this book even more than Hopeless, and HOPEfully, this is not the end of this beautiful love story.

⭐ I loved the characters and the plot. I could kind of figure out what was coming but it did a plot twist and surprised me!Spoiler warning****I dont like how their sex scenes played out AFTER finding out about her traumatic rape. For me it wasnt okay how it was handled, it was a MAJOR trigger. Especially how he made her say I love you as she was doing it. Idk why it just really didnt sit well with me. Made me queasy honestly. Like you just watched someone die and you are.going through some super traumatic stuff right now so lets go hook up. Meh. Thats just my opinion though and to each their own.

⭐ I love being inside Dean’s head reading his journal entries. This story is about Dean and how he deals with losing both Hope and Les.Colleen handles these sensitive subject matters with great precision. High school is tough and I’ve never personally known someone to die during that time so this is a new experience for me. Colleen has covered all the bases.Colleen adds a nice balance to this story considering the topic of death and kidnapping. There’s humor mixed in with grief. There’s anger mixed in with happiness. There’s fighting mixed in with loving. There’s intimacy mixed in with cheating.I read Hopeless maybe 3 years ago and have wanted to read Losing Hope for those 3 years. I am amazed how easily all the information came back so simply. It was as if I read it yesterday. That story imprinted itself on my mind forever. I’m not one to remember details of a story but this one is still fresh in my mind. It has a draw to me. It touched my heart.Holder is playing the part of a patient guy and its intoxicating. The flirting is seductive. I’m imprinting each moment in my mind. I love how Holder wants every moment to have meaning. Each shared encounter ship has to be relevant. I’m driven crazy by the sweet torture of Holder and his appreciation for Sky when he’s adoring her.I’m so wrapped up this story for a second time and I can’t pull myself away. There is no part of the story that is easy to step away from. From one chapter to the next I find myself eagerly turning the pages. I love Holders character. I find Colleen has a way of capturing the innocence of a young male character. It’s so sweet and pure. It makes me ache to have that tenderness.Colleen you have a brilliant mind. I can see why people love you so much. You have this ability to look at all possible scenarios. You are like the devils advocate. Someone who can understand every possible path and give clarity to that perspective. That’s what draws the reader. It’s emotional and dynamic.

⭐ This book was as good as Hopeless. This book is a game changing book. It was amazing to get to see Holder’s side to the story and I loved every single minute of it. Every single minute. Loved it.We get a good glimpse of his emotions during Hopeless but that isn’t the same as the entire story from his point of view.Hopeless is also a five bright glittery stars. Just a fabulous series. These characters just grab hold and don’t let go even after the last word has been written. I don’t remember if I cried during Hopeless but I definitely sobbed during this one. Amazing writing and amazing story.

⭐ So, I didn’t expect it to be POV of Dean Holder. I figured even if it’s same story of 1st book, I’ll give it a shot. I didn’t think I would have tears again…about Les & how it is a big factor of them all…Oh, man, the water works on Dean Holder. I don’t regret buying this in Kindle Format & listening to the audiobook! I love knowing what Dean went through with her. Just beautiful to know how he handle things and do his best to keep the love going…Damn, I didn’t believe I would love his character even more but man, cheese & rice, it’s possible. STUNNINGLY AMAZING BOOK EVER.

⭐ I loved Hopeless a lot! Colleen Hoover did amazing with that one and did great with this one! I am grateful she allowed us to be able to see from his POV; Dean is so amazing. I also love the detail Colleen provides in her books and this one doesn’t fail. Obviously, you should read Hopeless first, then this one. Following Hopeless, I read several books before I got to this one, which I prefer to do with any series so I don’t go through them as fast which allows me to enjoy the storylines even longer. Definitely recommend!

This book is the epitome of grief, love, healing, and coming-of-age. Hoover’s ability to craft a story so devastating and beautiful is a rare and precious talent. My Thoughts*I received this e-book in exchange for an honest review via Netgalley.*”All those nights you held me and just let me cry . . . you have no idea how manytimes you’ve already saved me.”I’m not a note-taker when it comes to book reviews. I don’t like to lose the rhythm I get when I’m reading by writing something down. And normally I don’t do play-by-plays, because A) I think my review style is more of an overall impression (the kind of reviews I like to read) and B) I don’t want to accidentally spoil anything. However, this book made me stop and write down things. I have no idea why, but I felt compelled to make notes. The first note I made: “Well, that has to be a record for book-induced tears — not even a whole chapter in. Someone tell me WHY I decided to start reading this in a public place!?”And it goes on from there. I thought I knew what to expect from this book. I mean, we’d already seen everything from Sky’s point of view. I expected it to be very much like This Girl, which was more of a fill-in-the blanks book (which I loved! You can read my review here.)Boy, was I wrong! This book honestly could have been a stand-alone. The overlap was minimal and was in all the right places. For the first time in a series, I did NOT re-read Hopeless, and I’m glad I didn’t. I got to see Holder’s perspective with fresh eyes. And I loved every.single.minute. of it. This book was heart-breaking in a much different way from Hopeless. Sure, we got the specifics of Holder’s grief, but in Losing Hope we really get inside his head a see what kind of turmoil is going on that leads him to where he was when he met Sky.I loved seeing the best friend (Daniel) and how he interacted with Holder. Every single new character (and even those we saw before) were perfect for the role they played in the story. Colleen perfectly created characters that helped drive the story where it needed to go.”I let everything I’m seeing sink in because this is what I want to remember the most. I want to remember exactly what she looks like the second she hands over a piece of her heart.”For me, the best parts of this book weren’t the intimate moments. I mean, I already experienced those. No, for me the intricate details of Holder’s emotions, and what led him to make the decisions he did, not only helped me understand his character better, but really completed the story for me.You’ll find yourself holding your breath, mopping up tears with industrial size tissues, and even laughing at the power of a good friend. But most of all, your heart will break for these two precious souls as they knit the pieces back together.”Time has completely stopped, and all I’m thinking about while we kiss is how this is what saves people. Moments like these with people like her are what make all the sufferings worth it.”OverallSix out of Five Stars

⭐ About my reviews:I am by no means a book scholar; I read for entertainment purposes only. I couldn’t care less about grammar and spelling as long as I can follow the story (I’m still a novice when it comes to the English language and I am 30+ years old and English is my first and only language…I’m a 0’s and 1’s kinda girl). With that being said, I do appreciate those who have the gift of bringing good characters and stories to life via written words evoking all my “girlie” emotions. For the most part I’m a sucker for likable characters, good chemistry, angst, heartbreak, and happy endings. I judge books by how I feel while reading them and I am always looking for my next “5 star book” high!I wanted to share my opinions on the books I’ve read recently because Amazon ratings can be misleading at times; however, I don’t want to spend too much time on reviewing a book when I could be reading the next “5 star book” (hence this template). You will not get any spoiler alerts or harsh critiques from my reviews…nope, you will simply get a star rating based on the following:5 stars – I could read this book over and over again…everyone should read this book!!!4 stars – I could read this book more than once!3 stars – Okay book…one read was enough2 stars – I just about got through this book1 star – I could not finish this bookHopefully this will help you identify some good reads and avoid some not-so-good ones!

⭐ Losing Hope was such an intense book for me. Reading everything from Holder’s perspective was heartbreaking. I believe I made it about three pages before the tears started rolling down my face. The guilt Holder felt over both his sister and Hope was devastating. His struggle to cope with losing both of them was almost too much for my heart to handle at some points. The notebook and the letters he wrote just about killed me. My heart was aching so badly for him.I loved Holder after reading Hopeless, but after reading Losing Hope I had a whole new respect for him. The beauty of Colleen Hoover’s writing is how intensely the reader is able to feel what the character is, and I truly felt every emotion Holder did as if it was my own. This story was much more than simply Holder’s side of Hopeless. It was his journey of loss, devastation, hope, anguish and love. My experience reading this was completely different from that of reading Hopeless.Being in Holder’s head made me feel so much more than I ever expected. The Holder in this book was so unexpectedly different than in Hopeless. Everything I felt for him was so much deeper and stronger. As painful as it was to see his pain and heartache, it made it even more beautiful how everything came full circle for him in the end. Holder definitely owned my heart after reading Losing Hope, although I do have to give a shout-out to Daniel. He was comedic relief at its finest, but beyond that he was a great friend to Holder.I was truly blown away by what an incredibly emotional book this was to read. Even just writing this review brings back so many feelings. Holder is one of the most amazing male characters in any book I have ever read. No author has ever been able to rip my heart out and then slowly piece it back together the way Colleen Hoover can. There was such a heartbreaking beauty to this story, and it will always be one of my all-time favorite books. I cannot recommend it highly enough for those who enjoyed Hopeless.

⭐ NOTE: DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE READ HOPELESS. I include spoilers.Okay. Losing Hope is Hopeless from Dean/Holder’s POV. It’s the same story from different eyes. I seriously will tell you if you loved Hopeless, you will love Losing Hope. Loved Holder? You’re going to fall in love all over again. I did.I already loved Hopeless. I was actually nervous when I saw that this book was actually Hopeless from Holder’s POV. I wasn’t sure… I loved Hopeless so much that I wasn’t sure if another POV could do it justice. I was wrong. So wrong. On so many levels. Not just “am I getting the same ol story” no. You are NOT. You get so much more…Holder was amazing in Hopeless. His heart, strength, hope, love, patience, just everything about him made him just absolutely perfect in Hopeless. Losing Hope made my heart ache for him even more. You get a look at things that you would have never known from reading Hopeless. Without giving too much away… you get to see what Holder went through with his sister… his family… and the emotional struggle he went though when meeting Sky. All things included.I loved reading things from his side. I remember hating him for storming off in the café at school when he saw Sky’s bracelet. I was like, why would you do that?! But seeing what Holder was going through… I understood. I feel as though I gained a new respect for him here. Many times I was like “wow what an ass… who does that?” it’s not until the end of Hopeless do you think you understand Holder. I thought I understood him too. Not until I finished Losing Hope.Holder is heartbreakingly beautiful. What he went through, no brother should have to do. As an older sister… the idea of my brother… I literally do not know if I could function. But I mean on top of that, he already had the guilt of Hope. I don’t know how he stood so tall… how he was able to live day after day. But… I guess it was that he always had Hope. The moment he met Sky, his whole world changed. Not for the fact of “Hope” but he fell in love. Not with that she could have been or what she was but for who she was no matter what (if that even makes ANY sense…) he loved HER no matter what her past held and she the same. Their love is just simply beautiful…*SPOILER: And I mean come on… Holder freaking loved her since they were little kids. He knew her for SO long. Lost her for SO long. Found her. And fell in love ALL over again*Overall… I LOVED Losing Hope. It was amazing, I got to relive Hopeless in a whole new light. I got to gain a new respect and love for Holder and I loved every second of this book. PLEASE read it if you loved Hopeless. You will not regret it. Holder will thank you for it 😉
