Description

Mathematical Analysis for Modeling is intended for those who want to understand the substance of mathematics, rather than just having familiarity with its techniques. It provides a thorough understanding of how mathematics is developed for and applies to solving scientific and engineering problems. The authors stress the construction of mathematical descriptions of scientific and engineering situations, rather than rote memorizations of proofs and formulas. Emphasis is placed on algorithms as solutions to problems and on insight rather than formal derivations.

User’s Reviews

Editorial Reviews: Review …good mixture of mathematical and standard items…a unified approach…emphasis to increase understanding and provide a natural approach to problem formulation and solution.–H.-Ch. Reichel, Buchbesprechungen…good collection of problems; chapter exercises; very useful appendix.-D.E. Bentil, CHOICE, January 2000 About the Author Rosenblatt, Judah; Bell, Stoughton

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I don’t know who this book is intended for. Everything on it resembles a cursory introduction to Calculus and another on Linear Algebra. I mean, chapter 12, p. 460+ and you’re being presented to Iterated Integrals? If one does not have the skill sets in this book then: 1) she’ll not get it from this book, since it’s a poor substitute for regular courses in Calculus and Linear Algebra; 2) Should you be looking at mathematical modelling at all, at this point? The last chapters are more advanced (look at the Table of Contents), but you should spend your money on separate books on these topics. I don’t think this book achieves its pedagogical goals.I really lost my patience with this book, to be honest. I regard it a nice hodge-podge of examples from Biology and Physics, but not much beyond that…Sorry…I just want to warn you before you spend your cash. Who knows, maybe this is a book for graduate students in Biology who want to have a crash course on modelling…Maybe for such a time-constrained crowd, it shines. But, seriously…
