Description

The “beautiful and haunting” (San Francisco Chronicle) tale of an orphan’s search for love, for his unknown father, and for the key to the elusive riddle of his fate, from the author of the forthcoming 4 3 2 1: A NovelMarco Stanley Fogg is an orphan, a child of the sixties, a quester tirelessly seeking the key to his past, the answers to the ultimate riddle of his fate. As Marco journeys from the canyons of Manhattan to the deserts of Utah, he encounters a gallery of characters and a series of events as rich and surprising as any in modern fiction.Beginning during the summer that men first walked on the moon, and moving backward and forward in time to span three generations, Moon Palace is propelled by coincidence and memory, and illuminated by marvelous flights of lyricism and wit. Here is the most entertaining and moving novel yet from an author well known for his breathtaking imagination. From New York Times-bestselling author Paul Auster (The New York Trilogy).

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I have been aching for a book so beautifully written. I ate it up, every word, even highlighting some of the deep philosophical points that I thought I just couldn’t part with. The characters are magnificent but I do have my favorite (Effing). The main character is tiresome with his self pity and stubbornness but you grow to understand him more and he grows on you like an old friend with all the flaws. I didn’t think I would be a fan of stories where “everything is connected” but its so unpredictable and mesmerizing. I can’t wait to read more of this authors work.

⭐With a protagonist who is oftentimes unlikable and more often frustrating, this book could have lost my interest. Instead, its odd, twisting plot kept me reading and, finally, wondering what happened to the confounding Mr. Fogg.

⭐A well written novel, easy reading with unexpected plot developments. In the end i was left wanting to continue the story to the next turn.

⭐I love this book. I follow the writings of this great american author. The adventures of the young protagonist takes us through many chapters of american history until our times with stories full of adventure and tender moments . The main character , young Fogg and his way of life teaches us the conflicts of a boy with a very difficult life and how he pulls off to take control and mainly being true to himself.I recommend this reading.

⭐Just finished reading and I feel as though I went through all this journey with M.S.I wish it went on for 200 more pages

⭐The beginning was odd enough to be interesting but as the pages passed I picked up my reading pace to the point of skimming. Then I would get hooked again. Overall somewhat interesting but not enough to heartily recommend. Missing a point or purpose.

⭐I am revamping my author’s list this term and insisting that my pre-university students expand their scope beyond “dead white guys.” Unfortunately for them (and me, since I have to read what I’ve assigned in order to mark their work with some degree of integrity) Paul Auster was on the list. I’ve just spent an increasingly resentful three evenings ploughing through what amounts to Dickens on drugs. Bad drugs. Cheap knock-offs that addle the brain without conveying any insight. Auster has more ‘convenient’ (read ridiculous) interpersonal connections than the master at his most contrived and convoluted. To add to the confusion, Auster has never met a rabbit trail that didn’t seem to him more enticing than his main narrative. And given the infantile mess of that central thread, I’m inclined to agree with his own dissatisfaction with the story he so ineptly foists on his unfortunate readers. I couldn’t wait to get away from it myself.Mr Auster, if you are out there somewhere seeking solace by reading Amazon reviews of your work, let me put it to you bluntly: your protagonist never learned to write, and neither did you.

⭐I am still only 95% through this wonderful story. I don’t want to finish it. But I can’t wait to see what happens to Fogg. I love Effing and Kitty and Uncle Victor. It is absolutely wonderful. I think this is the third book of Auster’s that I’ve read–by far my favorite. And I enjoyed them all.

⭐As a teen who is trying hard to engage in reading, a somewhat forgotten art amongst my generation , I would say this book has been perfect for me.Auster manages to somehow bring up big existential questions raised by authors like Kafka and Jean Paul-Sartre whilst steal creating brilliantly written gripping novels.READ, You’ll love it, then want more!

⭐Easy to read, even if not a page-turner. The story is weird, post-modern, but attractive during most of the book. You will not discover the meaning of life in this book, but it is truly enjoyable. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to read an Auster book. Maybe not his best one, but a quite accesible one for sure.

⭐Credo che questo libro, così come il suo autore, abbia veramente bisogno di poche presentazioni. Mi piace tanto, ho letto moltissimi suoi libri che ritengo di buona fattura, specialmente in inglese (non tradotti).
