⭐ Having read the first two books in this series and loved them (especially Veiled Rose), I was eager to read this one. This book is a bit different than the other two, but still good. To me, at least, the first two came across as very allegorical. This one, while it makes some very good points about faith and forgiveness, is more of a sequel to Veiled Rose. The author has taken the world and the characters she created and run with them. This isn’t a bad thing; it’s just different from the first two. While you could get away with reading Heartless and Veiled Rose in either order, I would definitely say that this one has to be read in order, after the other two. The worst part about this book is that it spends several chapters in a time already told. So, while there is some new material added, the first part of the book is basically the last part of Heartless, from Leo’s POV. I can understand that the author had to catch up, and it is certainly important to the story, but I found it irritating, as I wanted to get to the new stuff, not rehash what I already knew happened. But, we get to find out what happens to Leo and Rosie! And all the old crew from Heartless are back, which is fun: Felix, Imraldera, Eanrin (it’s not a faery tale if you don’t have the annoying cat). It’s also fun to see the back story slowly unfold. There have been hints all along about certain past events, and now it’s starting to become clearer who’s who, who did what, and how certain characters are connected. After being forced to banish Rosie (read: after rejecting her when he should have stood by her); which still doesn’t seal his people’s trust in him and still ends in the result he was trying to avoid, Leo is finally forced to come to grips with the fact that maybe he wasn’t trying to do the right thing as much as he thought. So, with a little help, he heads off into Faery to find Rosie. Unfortunately, she’s in a part of Faery that hasn’t been seen for half a century. And her father’s insane and doesn’t have particularly nice plans for her. The Dragon may be dead, but his children only sleep. And if there were a way to wake them, to control them…

⭐ Wow.With each book in the Goldstone Wood series, Anne Elisabeth Stengl pulls the reader further and deeper into the magical world and the lives of her characters. This is the third book in the series, and it pushed past everything we’ve seen so far.The books all overlap a bit, to give us the tale from another character’s viewpoint. As with the previous book, Moonblood focused largely on Lionheart and his life. He is a complex character that is hard to hate, yet hard to love. As the reader, I wanted to love him. I kept hoping that he would cast aside his cowardice and become the man his name suggests he is. He let me down time and time again, but the beauty of Stengl’s world is that her characters are so believably human. They are selfish, cowardly, shallow, stubborn, and fickle. Yet they each have the opportunity to change and find forgiveness.I loved Rose Red in this book. She was so strong, yet so obstinate. She refused to call for help when she needed it. I’ve always loved her character, though, and I was very happy with how things turned out for her.I sobbed my way through the last 20% of the book. Not all of my tears were sad. Some of them were, but a lot of them were happy, too. To say that I liked this book would be a gross understatement. I loved it. I loved the message. I loved the characters. I loved the writing. I can’t wait to start the next one!

⭐ Moonblood is the sequel to Veiled Rose. It continues the story of Rose Red and Prince Lionhart. Rose Red has been kidnapped to the world of the goblins. Prince Lionhart has lost everything that was dear to him including Rose Red’s friendship. Because of his own folly Rose Red is now in danger, and Lionhart feels the need to redeem himself and save her. This book is filled with non-stop action and excitement. Moonblood answers some questions about the series, but it also creates new questions. I couldn’t put this book down. I devoured it in a few hours time, and couldn’t wait to read the next book in the series. The price for this book is great! A must read for any Christian fantasy fan!

⭐ Ok…. I got the first book of this series because it was free. I do not consider myself a fantasy lover or reader. Well, these books have changed my opinion. I was not going to buy the rest of the books because my local library actually had all of them but after reading this book (library’s copy) I plunged in and bought them all, even the ones already read. This was my favorite thus far after reading the first two, not that I didn’t love them also. It’s intriguing to me how it’s all one long story that ties together but not in the typical linear way. Excellent!!!

⭐ I recently discovered these books and they are amazing! Everything has a meaning. Every character has a story, but it’s not overwhelming. It makes you reflect on the lives of everyone you meet, because of course everyone has a story, everyone is the main character in their life. That’s how this is written. The underlining message of forgiveness and redemption is beautifully interwoven.

⭐ Wow! I was absolutely amazed when I picked up the first book of the series. The characters were believable and I felt each emotion that they were feeling. I waited for what seemed like forever for this book to come out…and it didn’t fail me. I kept finding little things hidden in the story that explained mysteries in previous books. Like, why there were no roses blooming in the Southlands. I’m not sure I want to wait another 4 or more months for the next one to come out. I want to find out what happens to Felix, Rose Red, and Lionheart. I love the biblical symbolism in the whole series as well. Great job, Stengl! 🙂

⭐ Moonblood is the third book in the spectacular Tales of Goldstone Wood series.Once again I was astounded at the fascinating intricacies of this clever epic allegory/fantasy. It was overflowing with unique and deeply-layered characters, strange lands and even stranger paths, and an ingenious plot unlike any other! I remain completely in awe of not only Anne’s brilliant imagination but also of her beautiful and euphonious writing!Journey with Prince Lionheart on his undertaking to free his kingdom The Southlands from the Dragon, who is wreaking havoc, destruction, and death upon Lionheart’s kingdom and people. Experience Lionheart’s many struggles in this quest; in being humbled as a lowly servant, in falling unexpectedly in love, and in the heart-breaking decisions he made that tore at his soul. Though at times he is weak-minded and insecure, he is also a character of a quiet strength and an integrity that is buried deep within him, but not altogether extinguished. However, will this integrity and faith of his surface in time? Or will he continue to make excuses for his mistakes and terrible choices? After betraying his beloved Una, in the most terrible way, and then banishing his long-standing devoted and faithful friend Rose Red to the dangerous Wilderlands, can Una and Rose Red ever forgive him? And can he ever forgive himself as he discovers just how far-reaching and dreadful the consequences of his actions are. What will it take for Prince Lionheart to surrender to the Silver Thrush’s words of `Won’t you return to me’?We find out what became of Rose Red when she was banished to the Wilderlands, and learn the true identity of this strange, ugly girl. And we discover why she was so crucial to King Vahe and his evil plan to awaken the sleeping dragons, on the night of Moonblood.Right along with the charismatic cast of Moonblood, we are taken on a journey of forgiveness and redemption, and learning that we cannot absolve our own sin by works. We discover we only need to accept the grace and forgiveness of our master. While traveling our paths, we will encounter many crossroads which may require us to make a difficult choice. How do we choose the road to take? Along the way, we will detect the signposts of trust and faith, and this is where patience is vital to stay on course. But will it all be too late for Rose Red and Lionheart, and for their kingdoms? The Moon is already beginning to turn blood-red…

⭐ I think Mrs. Stengl’s strength as a writer is in her characters. Having a firm grasp on who Goodness is, she can authentically write about real heroes who, though corruptible, get back on their feet to follow their path. I especially liked in this book the development of Prince Lionheart who finally learns humility. At times, the book tends to be a bit more allegorical than fantasy, but in my opinion that can be forgiven. No one will ever accuse Mrs. Stengl of straying away from the objective purpose of every story: to make known Jesus. I think that is what I like most about this book. When I read it, I got to know Him a little better.

⭐ It seemed to drag a bit in places–I wanted to shake the characters and tell them to quit being fools– but it was a great book overall. I like the characters and the fantastic and intricate worlds Stengl created.

⭐ This is not my favorite in this series, but even so it blows most fantasy out of the water. This writer obviously has a deeply intimate relationship with the Creator that far surpasses the law-based religious system that so permeates today’s church. She is a very good wordsmith as well.
