⭐Perhaps the best-written, clearest, and error-free (as best as I can tell!) math book I have ever studied, and I have studied a lot. Brilliant examples, historical notes, and explanations of connections to other work. An obvious labor-of-love by the author. I’m a statistician and data scientist with some theoretical interests that arise in the course of my real-world practical work, and frequently need to consult mathematics texts for results and proofs that I need. I am presently working on some specific data fusion rules (actually approximation algorithms that get close to an optimal solution which is a combinatoric challenge) related to multiple-sensor small ensembles of classifiers, and various extensions to Dedekind numbers play a key role. The explanations in this book on the topic are beautiful expositions, shimmering prose. I’m not joking, I get emotional when I encounter obvious expertise combined with true craftsmanship in writing. Hats off to the author, whom I do not know, have no connection to, have never met, etc. But wow has he helped me with this fantastic treatise.
