⭐This is a “must” reading for those interested in women in ancient science. It is scholarly yet very readable.

⭐Extremely readable scholarship, and very informative about Pythagoreans through the lens of the philological and archeological reconstruction of the way of lives of the women involved with the movement. Very interesting about the ritualistic and religious aspects of their symbolic life-world, and adds to our knowledge of the intellectual importance of their fragmentary writings. The maps are great, as is Pomeroy’s work with time-lines and who would count among them and early versus Hellenistic reconstructions. Learned a lot about the movement from this perspective that surprised me and I’ve read the primary scholarly accounts on the subject.
