Description
Reconceptualizing Mathematics, founded on research and studies of learning and mathematics teaching for many years, is designed for use in classrooms in which students take an active part in learning and experience doing math. The esteemed author team has written the only textbook of its kind to both incorporate aspects of student-centered learning into lessons and model the teaching that will be expected of their students. To this end, the authors provide worthwhile tasks, activities, and support for facilitating discussions. Quantitative reasoning and problem solving are recurring themes in Reconceptualizing Mathematics. The authors approach problem solving that teaches students to understand the quantities embedded in the situation and how they relate to each other.

⭐just what my daughter needed.
⭐Despite the heavy duty and weight of this book, it has been a useful reference for my CSET since I’ve been scribbling notes on it. The book offers alternative teaching methods as opposed to the “traditional methods” that you need to teach your child/student for their standardized testing exams. The book provides some solutions, but sometimes they are unclear or approachability can be confusing even for my professors. The quality of the paper used is quite inadequate if you think about page turning/flipping, writing down side notes, and easily rip-able. I had to use this book for two years, and my book has already fallen apart. I went through the three-ring binder which lasted me about a year, and this book lasted me for a little bit over two years. All I need is a true textbook version that would last me years and years.
⭐I spent nearly $100 for this textbook, and it does not even display fractions as it is suppose to. These books cost so much even as eBooks because they take a lot of time for QUALITY ASSURANCE on EACH PAGE, yet no matter what device I use, it is useless. For example, if the freactions 3/4, 5/8, 12/18, and 128/330 are suppose to be displayed next to each other, you actually get to read “34581218128330” and that makes doing a third semester’s worth of homework impossible unless you’re just a lucky guesser. DO NOT BUY THIS.-Cheyenne Gage
⭐This book does a good job at specifically going through concepts of mathematics that will help you understand and therefore better your teaching techniques of the subject matter. It’s pretty thorough as well. You are exposed to many different ways that children approach math problems and therefore get to build and understanding of their logic and learn to look at problems in more ways than just “what you were taught.” I really like this book and would recommend it to others. The only down side to this book is that it is a very big book. So big that our teacher does not require us to haul back and forth to class. Much of the space is used as margins that you can write in, so its a lot of wasted space/weight if your not someone who writes in your books.
⭐If you are planning to be an elementary math teacher (or general ed teacher), then this is the book to get. It has wonderful strategies for teaching math to children. I often wonder why they didn’t teach math like this when I was in elementary.
⭐This did not come as an actual bound book. I received what seemed to be all of the pages torn out of the book and put into a three ring binder. This has not hindered my use of the book, as it seems all of the pages are there, but it was not what I expected. The top ring of the binder is a an annoyance when turning the pages as it does not properly close, causing some pages to rip as I try to put them back in their place. This would not have been so displeasing, had it been stated when I purchased this book.Switch to e-books or pdfs already.
⭐Good textbook for my course; it’s a keeper.Cheap paper though. It means you need to be careful selecting the 3-ring binder you’ll put it in. Use a new one that folds right without tearing your pages up!
⭐It was in great shape and the description they gave was accurate! Very nice note they gave with it too!
⭐Only covers certain pôrtions of the book.
⭐This was indeed a bound copy of the book and not the loose-leaf version of the textbook. I was disappointed in the state of the cover upon arrival as it was a soft cover and looked like it had seen better days. Overall, it was fine.
