Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I appreciate the fact that both the authors are racing elite and have won many international awards and trophies. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean they know diddly about TEACHING the art and craft of sailing. On the other hand, perhaps we should blame the editors for the content and the way this book is so poorly organized. Good grief, there is a logical progression to providing instruction on a topic such as sailing where you start with the basics and the next instruction builds on the previous. In this book, they skip around so much that it becomes confusing. Further, their personal anecdotes are not useful and are, actually, annoying (who cares about Dennis Conner and Ted Turner?). So many other better books out there:Sailing Made Easy by American Sailing Association; Complete Sailing Manual, 4th Edition by Steve Sleight; and Basic Keelboat by US Sailing. Read any of these and you will learn the solid basics of sailing well.

⭐So far, it’s an extremely informative book. I’m new to the sailing world and before I invest in my future house, I need to know all I can about it. This book is getting into the nitty-gritty to teach me all the technical terminology and what to expect before I take my classes. Great read for anyone interested in learning to sail, and I would assume it’s great information to gloss over for the experienced sailor, too

⭐I’ve used the Dummies series before, and like their format. They seem to be well thought out. I’ve been sailing for decades, but I’m getting the grandkids and son-in-law started sailing. I read through the book before giving it to them, and I think it does a good job of explaining the subject. Very good book.

⭐Very comprehensive. I’m an old and quite experienced sailor and purchased the book to consider it as a textbook for teaching my nephews how to sail. Needless to say, it makes a fabulous textbook.

⭐Very good for the person, like me, who knows nothing about sailing. I have only read about a third of the book so far, but I have learned a lot. I may deserve 5 stars, but a lot of the concepts of sailing are just difficult to understand without hands on experience, of which I at this point have none.

⭐For someone who has yet to get on the water this is a good starting point. Helpful tips on where to get instruction, nautical terms, and simplified information on rigging, and tuning of thr sails. I wasn’t really interested in the comments about racing which the authors are obviously passionate about, but easy enough to skip through if that’s not your thing.

⭐This is a fun way to better understand the ins and outs of sailing. I would highly recommend this to others that are getting into sailing or have been sailing for years and want to learn more possibly. Always a good conversation piece as well.

⭐This is a good book about sailing. I bought other books thinking that this book would be simplistic but I should have bought this a year ago.

⭐Since I was a fresh sailor, and bought a boat only months ago, I hoped this book would give me a fast track to understand the basics. Not only did it give me enough to sail my 23 foot boat from day one, but the chapters about how to optimize and sail faster gave me a detailed understanding on fine tuning the sails. By reading this, I now have a good understanding how the wind works on the boat, and when I at one point experienced wind that might have been too much – what I had learned from this book made me feel secure, and I was able to trim my sails to a level that made it just fun.If you are planning, or just have bought a sailboat, I recommend this as good starting point. If you want to learn more about how to trim your sails, what to bring on a longer trip or what to do when you visit a new harbor – this also is a must have.It will have a permanent place in my boat as a reference!

⭐Great book, a helpful manual and very easy to read

⭐Lots of really useful information for the beginner sailor however it is written for the American Market and some information is out of synch with what happens in UK. That said I think it is still a useful book for those starting out.

    ⭐I thought it was informative

⭐It is easy enough to follow.
