⭐Just what I wanted.
⭐I used Schaum’s Outlines as an undergraduate and in graduate school. PhD
⭐As good as Calc could get I guess
⭐I got this to tutor a neighbor for the calculus CLEP exam. I took off one star as this outline has numerous errors all over the place. (For an example see the picture above- the value for the cosine of theta shouldn’t have a “/3” in the radicand- the entire radical should be divided by 3.)I’m an actuary and can spot these errors right away so I still find this book very useful in going through all the topics he needs for his test and having a generous amount of practice questions. If you’re trying to teach yourself calculus I wouldn’t suggest using this outline.
⭐So this ebook has typos like the geometry ebook has, but this takes it further into wrong answer territory. Unless there are 2 answers (not likely) some of the answers for the supplementary questions in chapter 3 are wrong. Going back and checking my work with formulas given, my answer wasn’t wrong. *shrug* This next post might not just be in the ebook, but elements of chapter five (parabola, etc) were only mentioned in passing. They were mentioned as part of a solution to a problem and not thoroughly explained at all.I’ll come back to this after I’ve finished it, but for now I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who has doubts about their calculus knowledge.
⭐Got this book to help me in class. I have never taken Calculus 1 2 or 3, Differential Equations, or Liner Algebra but now I have a class where I need to use all five. This book has helped me immensely to have a better understanding of the class I’m in now. It is direct and well explained but not over explained to where it wasn’t actually understandable.
⭐Don’t consider this a text book. It is very good for help in showing how the fundamental development of many methods that are used to solve calculus problems. I had calculus in college many years ago and I am retired at this point in time. I worked as an electrical engineer for 50 years and I used calculus for solving problems. I am now a math tutor and I have to go back and review various fundamentals. The Schuam’s Outline of Calculus is very helpful for reviewing.
⭐Generally, I like Schaum’s outline series. But, I won’t buy the kindle editions any more. It’s unfortunate and I don’t know why the Kindle Reader in my browser seems to change the font sizes from one line to the next. You can see by the excerpt I included that line (g) is substantially smaller than the other text and impossible to read without a magnifying glass. I tried experimenting with font and page sizes but found that making the smallest font readable produced HUGE font on other text. Note in the example attached: The primary font on the page is about 14 points, the first question (c) is about 11 point and question (g) is about 5 points. Now, see if you can determine the exponent (about 3 points) in question (g).
⭐I used Schaum`s to brush-up on calculus prior to solving differential equations as a counter to my wife’s addiction to Sudoko. Did not disappoint; as good as I remembered from 50 years ago (the outlines, not my wife).Lots of worked examples illustrating key points with well organised chapters.
⭐The book is good, and very comprehensive in terms of what it covers. If you are looking for explanations about how to do calculus, I would avoid this book entirely as it lacks clear, concise real explanations and instead uses constant problem after problem to explain what’s happening. This book is only useful if you already understand the language or terminology used in mathematics. It’s useful as a book to practice from if you already know the material, but not as a book to learn from.
⭐I’ve only read the first chapter and found it very difficult to follow. The writing is small and I find it slightly difficult to read. It created, for me, a lot of head scratching trying to follow what was being said
⭐Great because there are practical examples other than just theory.
⭐I recommend this book to our students and it always proves a winner. Strips Calculus back to basics and builds on that. Highly recommended.
