She specializes in business topics and, because of her background, spends a good deal of her time writing about real estate–related topics for magazines such as REALTOR Magazine, Florida Realtor, The Residential Specialist, and Log Home Living. Bridget has also penned a few books along the way, including The Real Estate Agent’s Field Guide, The Home Buyer’s Question and Answer Book, The Real Estate Agent’s Business Planner, and the RE/MAX Guide to Buying a Home. She’s shared her home-buying expertise on various radio programs and Web sites, and is herself a homeowner who, until recently, also owned a rental home out of state. Hunkered down in her Florida home office for most of the day and night, Bridget does break away from her desk now and then to work out at the gym and run 5K road races on a regular basis. She’s now thinking seriously about training her 12-year-old daughter, Catie, to take over her business so she can put down the pen, turn off the computer, buy a vacation home on Maui, and get a life outside of work. So far, Catie has been somewhat noncommittal about giving up soccer and homework to be a CEO. Stephen Spignesi is a full-time writer and editor and the author of 40 nonfiction books and one acclaimed debut novel, Dialogues (Bantam). His books include The New York Times bestseller, J.F.K. Jr., five books about Stephen King, three books about the Beatles, and several books about world and American history, pop culture, the paranormal, true crime, TV, movies, cooking, natural disasters, Italian historical figures, cats, and contemporary fiction. Stephen’s most recent book is George Washington’s Leadership Lessons (published by Wiley), written with James Rees, the executive director of George Washington’s Mount Vernon. Stephen lives in New Haven, Connecticut, with his wife, Pam, and their beloved and brilliant cat, Carter.
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐Great product great delivery
⭐The best part of this book is that it doesn’t assume why you are buying a second home, it covers all of the bases. Personal use, rental property, vacation home,… Well referenced for quick look ups. I haven’t read it from cover to cover, but each time I have a new questions, I can grab it and find pertinent information in just a few minutes.
⭐I was hoping there would be some great insight that I may have overlooked in my online research into owning a second home. Apparently, I had the basic idea. Additionally, the book was written before the market crash in 2008, so she goes into great detail in “creative financing” options and mortgage lenders (Countrywide) that no longer exist.
⭐Very good and thorough book. Very detailed and thought out. I recommend this book to anyone who is even thinking about purchasing a vacation home, investment property, etc. Bridget McCrea gives the reader a logical and step by step process to follow.
⭐Plenty of advice on renting out your second home and the additional costs of owning vacation property. Gives you things to think about if you are considering this kind of investment
⭐I think we would rather have had a newer edition, and a guide with more rental property information. For someone starting with zero information, this might be a useful intro to the subject.
⭐I found it pretty useful on many counts but I wanted more information on tax related matters, particularly when a US citizen/residen is returning to the US after living abroad for a while.
⭐Covers most financial aspects of owning non-primary properties, including second homes, vacation homes, rental properties, and strategizing for retirement property. Tax questions are covered in detail.Could have used more personal examples to give the book a more homey feeling. Also not a great resource for rural or undeveloped land purchases.Overall, very useful for anyone considering purchasing investment property, including rental property or renting to tenants part time.Lisa Merritt[…]
⭐If you are considering buying a second property in the UK, don’t buy this book for guidance! It is geared around the U.S. market.
