User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Lots of cool ideas. Never really goes anywhere. Best title ever though. Honestly I was only gonna give this three stars, but then I thought back and remembered that there was one particular tidbit of information that I personally was able to put to good use. So I figured that while it’s all pretty broad and general information, if people are able to gleen useful tidbits here and there, then doesn’t that at least warrant the fourth star? I think so. So thank you Mr. Pickover for putting all this stuff together for us.

⭐First time I have read Mr. Pickover, but certainly not the last. This book covered a wide range of topics as is evident from the title. Marcel Proust is a recurring theme throughout this work and unifies so many of the topics. Where do I start to talk about what is inside? Well, again the title covers about everything in it. The scientific perspective is the real unifying factor throughout the book. If you think it is some hippie-like manifesto, forget it. It is something that could be featured more on PBS than A&E channel. If there is one criticism I have with the author, it is that he brings too much of himself and his hometown into the book. Read it and you will see what I mean. Good read though on some outlandish notions of our universe.

⭐A fun assortment of interesting facts and eccentric findings.Pickover introduced me to Marcel Proust through his love of the philosopher. This discovery has opened my mind up to appreciating different perceptions of reality. The book was originally purchased with the intention of learning more about psychedelics; however there wasn’t a great deal of coverage. If you’re considering this book for the same reason, there are many other great books on the topic. If you want to read an unconventional book filled with ideas and concepts you wouldn’t stumble across otherwise, you should definitely check it out.

⭐Pickover’s exceptional mind is a treasure house of information and original thought. All the books he wrote on a variety of subjects are proving his broad scala of interests. The book this review is about has an additional quality though: it pulls readers into his way of making connections, activating their own brains in making theirs. This is a very personal book. Pickover’s love for language and the secrets of words, his fascination with the nature of reality, his scientific insights and love for odd people and aberrant thinking and his roots in Jewish tradition are the vessels for making this book a tour the force of old and new concepts and where they are connected. It’s about literature. It’s about science. It’s about Mind. It’s about Pickover himself, his visions, his passions and his writing. He constantly invites the reader to participate and react. After finishing the book I experienced something akin to what he says in his epilogue:’My feet are tired, but my spirit soars.’ A great book for people who like limitless thinking.

⭐I usually don’t review books with a lot of other reviews, but in this case they are so heavily skewed to 5 stars that I feel something is not right here. Makes me wonder if the author’s friends are reviewing the book.Let me start by saying that I am into most of the topics the author touches on, and spend quite a bit of my free time reading and exploring the grey area between science and speculation. This book pretends to explore that area, but in actuality does nothing of the sort. Rather, it meanders around the topics offering snippets of interest and musing on the part of the author. The book is really just a wandering and utterly pointless sort of mental masturbation, and nothing more. I imagine the author as a spoiled teenager going on and on about what he might do someday. As an example, much of the book mentions DMT, and yet the author has never done DMT. How can you pontificate on something you’ve never even experienced!? If you are actually interested in Einstein, DMT, mathematics, mysticism and other realms of the frontiers of the mind, seek out the authors who have spent their lives researching and writing about this, and not someone who just collected all the buzzwords together and called it a book.Much of the book is devoted to talking about computer-generated writing and the publishing industry, and makes me think that this book is actually a spoof of a real book. That this book was generated by using computer search algorithms to come up with topics, and then they were surrounded by important tag words such as ‘Burning Man’ and ‘ayahuasca’. If so, the joke is on the reader. Mostly I am ashamed that I read the whole book, hoping it would get better or go somewhere. Much of the tactics espoused for getting a book published seemed like used car salesman stuff. Well, it’s working …Finally, I must mention Proust. If you are obsessed with this author, you may enjoy this book, as much of it is devoted to glamorizing Proust. If you have never read this author of multi-thousand page drivel, then like me you may find the author’s endless romanticizing and quoting a complete waste of time. I have to say, birds of a feather …I don’t think I have ever had such a negative reaction to a book. Look at my other reviews : I am not a vindictive or overly negative guy, but in this case I feel strongly compelled to warn people away from wasting even a few minutes of their life.

⭐I LOVE this book, I give it as a gift all the time. The thing that makes this book so good is the style of writing, its so casual but the subject of the book is very deep. You connect with the author he makes you feel like you two are just talking over coffee.Other than the awesome content and writing this book jus lets you see the world differently. Its a book where when you are reading it, you need to stop and just really think about that last paragraph. My first read through took me about 3x as long as a normal book of its length because it took me time to fully comprehend what he was trying to get acrossYou should get this book

⭐Clifford Pickover’s writing has filled me with both wonder and curiosity, my apathy crumbled in the face of his indefatigable speculation, curiosity and enthusiasm; his sheer love of life. He is the Stephen King of science.
