⭐ This is truly a beautiful tale filled with wonder, laughter, thrills, chills, a touch of horror, and boundless grace.It would be difficult to write a synopsis without unintentional spoilers, so I will simply mention favorite bits.For one, I adore Foxbrush. 🙂 He is essentially the same character we met in Veiled Rose and Moonblood, and yet here we see him through different eyes. And we watch him grow through his trials, often in rather amusing ways.Daylily is an intricate character who reminds me of some women I have known: reserved, artificial, difficult to like, yet fascinatingly complex. Her journey through this novel is both horrifying and compelling, for she is almost too real for a fictitious character. The symbolism of the red wolf is deep.Imraldera, who has always been the ideal heroine, makes a mistake in this book–which humanizes her and makes her even more lovable. Bard Eanrin’s fans will be satisfied, although not perhaps in a way they expect. Nidawi the Everblooming is both hilarious and terrifying! I have never seen anything like her elsewhere in fiction, that’s for sure. Many other fascinating fey creatures make an appearance, adding to the story’s fantastical ambiance.Lionheart finally begins to prove his courage, and Felix . . . is very much himself. So much fun to see characters from the early books as well as a few from more recent tales!I would not recommend Book 6 as the best starting place for the series–a reader should at least read Veiled Rose and Moonblood first to fully appreciate this tale. The allegory here is deep and rich, not immediately obvious to a first-time reader.For those who enjoy classical fantasy themes, including strong hints of Tam Lin and Celtic mythology, this novel will be a delight.

⭐ If you haven’t already read the previous books of this series, you might want to since these stories are forever entwining. I love how this author can take a character who sees themself as insignificant, and definately NOT what they were destined to be, and turn them into something from legend where everyone knows without a doubt who they are. Every detail can be significant. In this story, Lionheart’s cousin, Foxbrush, is at a place where he is about to assume the throne of the Eldest and marry the lady he’s always loved. Problem is, Foxbrush is so far from being ready it’s unreal. He struggles with seeing himself as someone who could be respected. He’s terrified of crowds and prefers books to people. When his bride-to-be, Daylily,runs off before the wedding, he decides to step out of his comfort zone and go after her, if only to tell her he loves her enough to let her go if that’s really what she wants. Meanwhile Daylily is on a mission to finally be free of obligations and once and for all destroy all the fierceness of her true self. These two must become all they were meant to be, before it’s too late and what they know of their past and future becomes destroyed. Don’t worry, this story still has all the fairies, knights of farthest shore, and power hungry nobles we know and love:) Altogether a mix that captures you from start to finish! Happy reading:)

As with previous novels in this series, I was awestruck by the reminder that those whom we think are strong are often weak, and those at whom we scoff and ridicule can accomplish marvelous things. God chooses those that the world would overlook. As a blind individual, I was moved to tears by the sacrifice displayed in this novel. Also, this story brought to mind verses from 1 John 2:1:2 which remind us all that we have an Advocate in Heaven who stands with us despite our fickle, fleeing ways.Shadow Hand was a true delight since many secondary characters are expanded upon. I particularly enjoyed encountering Prince Felix again, and seeing the Baroness of Middlecrescent fleshed out much more was a true delight. Other characters broke my heart as their all-too familiar fallibilities were revealed. My favorite new character was Lark, a young girl with a sweet but no-nonsense disposition.Please give this beautiful story a chance. Embark upon a journey you will not soon forget. ⭐ Shadow Hand is the latest in the Tales of Goldstone Wood fantasy series, and one of the most exciting yet. It could be read as a stand alone, but having read the other books in the series will definitely benefit the reader as it follows a number of the characters introduced in earlier books (I’d recommend reading the series in publishing order).Shadow Hand focuses on two characters introduced earlier in the series – Lady Daylily of Middlecrescent, daughter of the ambitious Baron of Middlecrescent; and Prince Foxbrush, a rather bumbling and cowardly young man recently made the heir to the highest position in the Southlands (the Eldest) when his cousin Lionheart was disowned and dispossessed. It also reveals who the mysterious “Shadow Hand” – who was mentioned earlier in the series as an important historical figure of the Southlands, who “gave his own two hands” to save his land – is, and the story itself leaves you guessing throughout on who Shadow Hand will be.The story begins with Daylily running away from the Southlands and into the faerie Woods Between on her wedding day, which kicks off the story, leading Foxbrush to completely leave his comfort zone of logic and books and try to find her, leading to a time-bending adventure.My favorite protagonist was Daylily (though her mother, the Baroness, was an absolutely hilarious character!), and Foxbrush was interesting as well, seeing him develop through the book. We also get to see more of Dame Imraldera and Eanrin who have played a large role throughout the series as Knights of Farthestshore. Lionheart – now a Knight in training – also makes an appearance, as does Felix (Una’s brother from book one) who I’m hoping will continue to have his story told.The main antagonist of the book is the powerful, and very creepy faerie parasite Cren Cru that readers of Dragonwitch will recognize, and we get to learn more about who/what Cren Cru is and where it came from.Shadow Hand was a very exciting addition to the series by Stengl, and I can’t wait for the next book (Golden Daughter) in November!

⭐ I have been a fan of the Goldstone Wood series from the beginning (my favorite being Starflower). In the beginning it was hard for me to get into this book, I think because my favorite characters, Eanrin and Ismaldera, weren’t in the first part. When the second part of the book started though, I was hooked. I just want to know, will Eanrin & Ismaldera ever get together? When does he lose his eyes and why? Will Lionheart and Rose Red get together now? I have so many more questions. She needs to write faster and provide a cheat sheet in her books because sometimes I forget things from the other books. Can’t wait for the next book!!!

I thought the book was great!I mean the whole story plot is wonderful,I love the fact that you finally wrote that eanrin was going to confess his love for imraldera,I know she loves him in return but I think shes battlleing whether or not to say so because there comrade-in-arms. Oh does eanrin really like go forever, I mean that just cant happen!Do they appear in Golden Daughter? Is golden daughter the last book of the series? Did it really take him 1600 years for him to confess his love,I mean they were meant for each other! Well thank you for writing this best book ever!!!!!

⭐ Oh please don’t ever stop writing these books! I just finished reading Shadow Hand, and I wish the next one was out right now. This very second. You are a masterful storyteller, Ms. Stengl. Sad to say, but you are slowly ruining most other books for me. As I’m reading other literature, I find myself thinking, “Hmmm…this isn’t as good as the Goldstone Wood series…” A very new and half-thrilling, half-annoying development for me. Your books are AMAZING!

⭐ Loved this installment of “The Goldstone Wood” series. We have almost come full circle. This one was a little confusing to me at first. We move back and forth through time, and it wasn’t until part way through that every thing clicked in my head. Great story. Love the author. Going to finish up the series. Five stars, no sexual content or swearing, there is fighting and violence. Great for teens and up.

⭐ This book takes you into a wonderful world of fantasy. The characters the author creates are interesting and intriguing. I especially loved Bard Eanrin. I read all 6 books of this series and can’t wait to enter a new journey with this author.

⭐ I couldn’t possibly choose a favorite in this series because they are all beautiful. This is a stunning conclusion, yet there could be seven more books and there would still be more to write. I hope the author gets back to writing these soon!
