Description

To know a Shih Tzu is to love a Shih Tzu . . . they’re irresistible, coy, flirtatious, and passionately devoted companions. They love the good life, and though they can be shrewd (or selectively deaf, or consciously naïve), the Shih Tzu is so endearing that even “big dog” lovers find themselves swooning over this adorable breed. But is the Chinese Charmer the right match for you? Shih Tzu for Dummies answers all of your questions, like: What is a Shih Tzu really like? Can I get a Shih Tzu if I have children or other pets? How difficult is grooming? Can I do it myself or should I get a professional? How do I find a good breeder? What about a good vet? What should my Shih Tzu eat?Do small dogs really need that much training? How can I teach my Shih Tzu some basic commands? The Shih Tzu is built for one job and one job alone: to be your close personal friend for life. A dog bred for companionship must be allowed to do its job, and its job is to be with you. So, if you have the time (for grooming), dedication (for training), and room (on your lap and in your heart), the Shih Tzu is a small dog with a lot of love just waiting for a new best friend.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I think our Shih Tzu is allergic to air. Found out with this book that a lot of them have allergies, especially food allergies. Did you know you don’t discipline a Shih Tzu like other dogs? You need to know that! I gained my dog as part of the wedding package with my wife (she gained a parrot). Things didn’t go well between the the dog and me at first. I was almost ready to give up on the dog. This book helped ALOT!! He’s now my best buddy. Tried a couple of other books too – but most of them were about showing dogs and breed history info. If you own one or are even thinking about getting a Shih Tzu you want to get this book. No – You NEED this book. You can thank me later.

⭐fun to read as they write with humor about these silly but lovable little pooches. Much of the material is generic dog info, but there is enough about Shih-Tzus to get you up to speed with them. Dont take your Shih-Tzu swimming, they are not good swimmers ! 🙁 also thier small digestive tracts make them sensitive to many greasy or spicy foods . Poor things!

⭐I have never owned a dog before but my family had a couple when I was young. I really don’t remember what went into raising a dog. Now as an adult I’m very much interested in this breed and thought the book was extremely helpful in explaining things from personality to temperament, to different house training techniques. While I’m sure there is still much to learn about the breed I feel this book gave me a great foundation of knowledge. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to get a good idea about the breed.

⭐I learned a few things, but mostly she doesn’t fit the mold. Fun book for the price.

⭐This book helped me when I got my little girl. I am by nature a cat person, and now I can say I have become a pet person. It is strange dynamic having both a cat and dog… one thing that is very important please don’t let the puppy chase the cat… mines does and she knows she is not suppose to.She is only playing but kittens or young cats don’t play that way. My cattie has gotten very nervous because of it

⭐I think this book is wonderful reading about Shih Tzu’s. Teaches you new about this dog. Great reading for new owners to learn how to take care of their new pet.

⭐I ordered this book after bringing home my 6-week old puppy, and it has helped me tremendously. I have one other book which talks a lot about the history and temperament of the breed, but this book is a lot more useful for everyday knowledge. I love the suggestions for getting the dog used to daily grooming so that he get used to being handled. My puppy is already starting to nip at my hands and feet, and this book is helping me respond to this and other undesirable behavior. This is my first dog, and I had not a clue about how to housebreak or socialize him. With this book, I feel a lot more confident in my ability to raise a friendly family pet.

⭐Overall it was okay book was more worn than I expected

⭐This is the book I was looking for! It’s not a high level advice for breeders and people who put their Shih Tzu for shows. It’s great reading and getting people know Shih Tzu nature better. For ordinary owners. Easy to go through, very true about the breed (I can compare it as I use to have Shih Tzu and this book was for my partner).Good value for good book

⭐I still love books, you can pick it up anytime and find something to read, very knowledgeable and helpful book, I’ve always had a dog, but this breed I needed to know a little more , just the job, although it says for dummies, these sort of books cover everything, easy to read too

⭐Great book for would be shih tzu owners . Very informative although beware this is s book written for American readers as it contains all USA references .

⭐We are about to get our first Shih tzu puppy and we want to do our best for our new family member. This book has already been helpful and I know I’ll be referring to it over and over again. Well presented book, absolutely packed with valuable tips and information.

⭐Really easy to read and understandOnly downfall is some things that are mentioned to buy or get in touch with are AmericanAnd when you live in the uk and have this book it’s a bit frustrating
