User’s Reviews

Editorial Reviews: Review “Living a ‘Good Life’ happens not by hiding from uncertainty and risk, but by embracing them. The problem is, we’re badly equipped to play in a place of uncertainty long enough to see the deeper possibility that always rides alongside it. Meditation helps us do just that, and Start Here Now is a fantastic guide to the practice. This beautiful book meets you where you are, and then walks you, step-by-step, into starting your own practice. Nearly every question you could think to ask is answered—from how to set up your room, to what meditation actually is and does—leaving you with but one thing to do: Begin. I can’t recommend this book strongly enough both to new meditators, and to experienced ones who might benefit from revisiting the essentials.”—Jonathan Fields, author of Uncertainty, and creator of The Good Life Project”I know you don’t have time to read this magical little book. That’s precisely why you need it—right now and forever. (When in doubt, see page 99).” —Seth Godin, author of Your Turn”Reading this book is like sitting down with your most brilliant, clever, fun friend and having them explain the vast world of meditation to you in a way that you can clearly understand. This isn’t just a how-to book; this is a how to apply meditation to your life book. If you think you are the one person who could never meditate, read this book and it will prove you wrong.”—Lodro Rinzler, author of The Buddha Walks into a Bar “Susan Piver knows the pitfalls that come with meditation, which makes her perfectly poised to help us through them with grace and self-kindness. Start Here Now is a truthful and real account of how to meditate and, more importantly, how to meditate now—when times are tough, life is busy, and our thoughts run a mile a minute. She gives us the proper tools and shows us how to use them. Her own warriorship, insight, and strength reveal how meditation has changed her life—and how it can change ours too.”—Ishita Gupta, entrepreneur and speaker, Ishitagupta.com “Start Here Now is a uniquely powerful and engaging introduction to the practice of meditation. Susan Piver’s guidance is deeply practical, down-to-earth, and frequently hilarious—without once compromising the radicalism of her message. If, like me, you’ve fallen off the meditation wagon before—or if you’d always vaguely wondered about meditating, but didn’t know where to begin, this warm-spirited but also resolutely bullshit-free book is what you need.”— Oliver Burkeman, Guardian columnist, author of The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can’t Stand Positive Thinking”Susan Piver is the best meditation teacher I have ever heard. No kidding. All that meditation has made her mind crisp and clear and Start Here Now is far more than a transmission of great information; it is a transmission of clarity and love.”—Jennifer Louden, author, teacher, and founder of “Savor and Serve” About the Author SUSAN PIVER is an author, meditation instructor, and founder of the virtual mindfulness community, the Open Heart Project. Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Thank you Susan Piver.I have the Kindle version of “Start Here, Start Now, Guide to Mindfulness Meditation” by Bhante G., and was looking for the audio version, but Audible kept presenting your book, “Start Here Now,” so I bought it, assuming it is what the Universe wants me to hear right now, and I’m glad I did because you inspired me!I can hardly wait to read your other books. Thanks again.Alma

⭐I purchased this book as a text, recommended for the author’s excellent Meditation Instructor Training program. In this brief volume she presents the shamatha- vipashyana method of meditation in an engaging and straight forward way. The reader is encouraged to try the practice in order to appreciate it for themself. Highly recommend.

⭐Meditation is the foundation of my spiritual practice. It still takes effort and is occasionally frustrating watching the activity of my thoughts and emotions. Having said that, being in the seat of the spectator rather than the reactor has contributed immensely to my contentment and joy. Susan has acted as my Meditation Instructor for many years and I have also become a member of her virtual communities, retreats and communications. In our discussions Susan has not only guided me but also provided sound advice “return to the technique” and shared her own experience. I look forward to finding all this guidance in Susan’s newest book “Start Here Now”.On completionStart Here Now by Susan Piver is the book I always wished to have available when asked to suggest a book to someone or anyone looking for a guide to begin a meditation practice. Susan is right on the edge of “Not too Tight -Not to Loose”. Her instructions are easy to follow and understanding enough to know we will all at some time look for excuses or occasions to loose our discipline. Her instruction is based on the foundation of her own personal experience which is alive and tender and something we can all relate too. She also offers online video instruction and virtual sangha for encouragement and support. I also got the Kindle version myself so the instructions and support are always close. I highly recommend this book.

⭐Highly recommend.

⭐I pre-ordered Susan’s new book and it arrived today and I have to say that I love the size and look of it, it will be the perfect book to take with me and reference whenever I want/need. As I’ve been reading through it tonight my heart is already feeling softened and opened through Susan’s writing. Susan has an incredible gift as an author and teacher. Her books have made such an impact in my life and I feel so blessed to get to be part of her virtual offerings too and to be able to dive more deeply into the practice and path of mindfulness, meditation and open-hearted living with such a loving and dedicated teacher. I am loving the book, so far and can’t wait to read more of it.

⭐If you haven’t yet experienced Susan Piver’s approach to meditation, the title of her new book gives you a clue. Reading her words is like being in a conversation with a good friend over the kitchen table. At the same time it’s like being in a conversation with yourself where you keep realizing that you, after all, ARE good enough, smart enough, kind enough, etc enough. You keep learning how it’s a lot more than just about self-help and positive thinking. I’m thrilled that Susan has put this book out into the world, and that, through it, I’ll have a chance to return to the wisdom of what it means to be a human being, here and now, breathing, just as I am — again and again.

⭐For anyone wanting to meditate, to have a deeper and serious understanding about this profound and transformative practice, this a very easy to read book, very close as if Susan was by your side, chatting nicely and sharply with you. With many important and practical issues around how to get started, deepen and sustain your practice, to the most FAQ approached very easily and concretely. Thanks Susan!!

⭐So many books are either begrudgingly scientific or unbelievably wispy that it’s difficult to stay engaged. Not so with this gem. Susan is clear, concise, real, genuine, and explains meditation in a way that makes the reader want to to explore its depths. I have taken a course with Susan and so in her writing I can also feel her compassionate energy. This is the perfect book for anyone who is interested in mindfulness meditation and wants to enjoy learning at the same time!
