⭐This book represents an interesting introduction to statistical methods in physical sciences.The book is well structured, is didactic and have very interesting examples taken from historical experiments and data (like the discovery of the electron by J.J. Thomson).At same time the author gives the demonstrations of some key results. Those mathematical demonstrations are, in my opinion, important to understand the concepts and implications of these results. Those mathematical derivations are indicated along the text, so the manual can be used as a theoretical book or as a practical one. This idea is reinforced by the inclusion of summary points at then of each chapter.The first chapters gives the material that cover by practically all manuals of these kind, but in the final three, the book give an extraordinary introduction to Markov chains and Monte Carlo Markov Chains with special attention to the Simulated Annealing algorithm.Nevertheless the book has in my opinion some deficiencies:- It is frequent to find something like “… the demonstration of (xx.xx) is in problem yy.y” and at the problem yy.y “Demonstrate (xx.xx)”. Because the problems are not solved at all, it would be better to say that the results is left as exercise for the reader.- In the same way the problems are not solved, and although many of them are simple gives detailed solution for all the problems is a valuable practice.
