Description
This book describes the basic concepts of supersymmetric theories. It is aimed at theorists, experimentalists and cosmologists interested in supersymmetry, and its content is correspondingly divided into three distinct tracks of study. The topics covered include a discussion of the motivation for supersymmetry in fundamental physics, a description of the minimal supersymmetric model as well as models of grand unification and string models, a presentation of the mainscenarios for supersymmetry breaking, including the concepts and results of dynamical breaking. On the astrophysics/cosmology side, the book includes discussions of supersymmetric dark matter candidates, inflation, dark energy, and the cosmological constant problem. Some very basic knowledge ofquantum field theory is needed and extensive appendices (in particular an introduction to the Standard Model of fundamental interactions) allow the reader to refresh and complete their notions.

⭐I bought a used copy of the book (not much used, as it’s only been around for 18 months or so) and am extremely satsified with it. If you have to choose between any of the recent textbooks available on this subject (Dine or Terning), I would highly reccomend this one.Specifically, if you are interested in constructing SUGRA theories from string theory, this is your book. The other books are ok—specifically, Dine’s books has some great explanations of things but is very light on the calculation end. I get the feeling that Dine’s book is meant as more of a guided tour of Supersymmetry and String Theory. If you are new to the field, then I think it is probably the best place to start.Terning’s book is a bit better when it comes to calculations, but it isn’t as broad in scope, I think. It is also more theoretical, which can be a good thing—Terning’s chapters on Seiberg Duality are wonderful. This book, though, offers both. There are some things missing, but for me it is the best balance of theory and phenomenology of the three titles. Plus it is reasonably self-contained in that you can pick it up and learn something from it in 30 minutes or so. Example: The Giudice-Masiero solution to the mu problem. It also contains extensive introductions to the SM and cosmology, both of which are completely absent in Terning’s book.At the end of the day, if you are a grad student in this field (i.e. building models), you should probably own all three. But if you can only buy one, I’d make it this one.
⭐After years of getting dumbed down books and over written papers , the pleasure of reading this textwas great. My current go to book on physic math theory. As usual I have a list of Index words that I failed to find that should probably be in the book: in order;1) Block design2) Brans-Dicke scalar field3) Constants4) CPT symmetry5) Fano6) Finsler Manifold7) Knots and Links8) PG(2,n) projective plane9) Symplectic groups10) Wang tilingTo be fair his index has many things that were very important and new to me.My new hero…
⭐Keep in mind that this is an Oxford University classroom book. It’s technical, it has formulas and theory as well.If you are new to Supersymmetry and just want a general understanding, this book may not be for you.Me particularly love it!!! Is excellent and provides me the additional info I was looking for.
⭐book reads as if it were translated from French – it’s not very readable and contains errors in translation and basic syntax. author doesn’t introduce topics so much as start talking about them as if the reader already knows the answer – requires pretty solid background to penetrate.
