⭐If you absolutely have no original thought or you need to know what to ask someone else or what else to look for elsewhere, this book can probably serve some purpose. I have read plenty of “dummies” books but this one leaves me puzzled. Many topics are brought up superficially, but if you are hoping to learn how to do things, this is not the place. I am designing my permaculture food forest and yes this book does touch on elements that you should think about, but that is it. You need a solid resource book – of which I do have many – but you never know where tidbits to know are, so I bought this book. It is going back today. I did know most of what is in the book, but if I did not, I could not build a garden or landscape sustainably with the information in the book. I am giving 2 stars because the topic is so important and I am rewarding the effort. The book may inspire a reader to go elsewhere to get all the information they really need and implement this into their grounds space.

⭐This book is excellent for anyone just starting out on a landscaping project. It covers every aspect of landscape design and implementation that the homeowner will encounter. It introduces you to terms and helps you decide when to call in a pro, without discouraging you from DIY. Sustainability is addressed from the source all the way through to the homeowner’s leisure time. For those that have an established landscape, the information is still excellent, but of course it is much harder to consider implementing many of the ideas (such as proper grading to exploit rainfall) when you already have 25 years invested in your property. Nonetheless, the intrepid gardener can still evaluate his or her property for the areas that can be converted to a more sustainable landscape and implement on a less grand scale than someone starting from scratch.

⭐Owen Dell is the individual most responsible for the way that I look at landscape, design and my footprint in general. Owen is an amazing speaker, part time tv geek and landscape guru. You can now add entertaing author to the resume. This is a book that will make you look at the art of landscaping in a way that keeps us in tune with dear ol’ mom. (Mother Earth that is) In simple easy to understand language, you can be a pro (Or just design like one) in no time. You will learn how to work with nature and our limited resources while having a positive impact on the environment. As with most ‘Dummies’ books, you can skip around to find areas of interest but I found it hard to put the book down once I started. Written with a true talent to entertain and keep the reader interested, I applaud Mr Dell and his commitment to the future of our natural resources.

⭐Not as helpful as I had hoped.

⭐its just a general information book

⭐I can take it or leave it.

⭐Wonderfully done. Intelligent, well thought out and easy to comprehend and follow. Thank you!

⭐Wasn’t very helpful – especially with plant information.

⭐A little elementary, but it is an introductory text after all. It is also a sensible and an enjoyable read.
