User’s Reviews
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐I’m disappointed this Bible left out the Book of Enoch mostly. It specifically states they have that in the book, however when you go to that alleged chapter, they state they chose not to publish it. That’s deceptive from the description and the own books’ description and table of contents.There are other things they discretionarily left out or didn’t publish. Disappointed.
⭐I had to return this. I bought this expecting at least a few books of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Instead, I got a NIV translation. There is one page describing the book of Enoch and where it was found. The actual book is not in there.I looked back to the beginning of the book, and it explains that it doesn’t hold the Dead Sea Scrolls or Book of Enoch because “these manuscripts can be found elsewhere”Okay, and so can the rest of this book. It’s just stupid.False advertisement. Don’t buy it.
⭐The description of what the authors “claim” you will receive when you purchase this is plain lies. They state there is the book of Jubilees and Enoch, all there is is a brief summary of where the scrolls where found, which cave, and then tells you that the text will not be added since there are other printed manuscripts. But you don’t know that until you have purchased the book. Also, it said it was translated from the Hebrew into English, no it is not. It is an NIV translation with a few Hebrew original names. I already own an NIV and do not need another one. I really want my money back. Whomever promoted this book is NOT an accurate reporter!
⭐Missing books false description and only lil summaries of chapters
⭐Potential buyers should know that this is a translation of all the biblical books found among the dead sea scrolls at Qumran. The non-biblical books from Qumran (Damascus Document, War Scroll, Genesis Apocryphon) are not included and for those you should purchase either the Vermes or Martinez Dead Sea Scrolls translation. A brief summary of 1 Enoch and Jubilees is included here but not full texts (and only a few paragraphs of those books were found at Qumran to begin with). Also, be aware that the texts from Qumran are very fragmentary and this book only translates the Biblical fragments as found. Thus, there are many gaps in the text, and this will not serve as a substitute for an actual old testament.However, this is an outstanding resource for those interested in Old Testament textual variations. The dead sea scroll versions of the Old Testament books are by and large very close to the traditional Hebrew Masoretic text (the basis for most Old Testament Bible translations). However, there are a few textual variants here that are closer to the Septuagint readings (i.e. the Greek translation of the Old Testament frequently quoted in the New Testament books). For most people these variants are not significant enough to merit close attention but for those with a more scholarly bent this is a great resource. This book may only appeal to academics and specialists, but it is excellent for what it is.
⭐Skipped the Enoch parts completely, which is what I got it for
⭐It is well prepared and so far checking the clame made about it.
⭐Not really a Bible. There are large sections missing. I don’t know what possible insight a serious Bible student could get. I anticipated those holes would be filled with readings from a Jewish perspective. These findings are for scholars only.
⭐Discovered in 1946 near the Dead Sea were huge numbers of fragments and even near complete books written on papyrus reeds many years before but during the time of Jesus Christ, by the previously unknown community of Jews known as Essenes. This book is a collection of those scrolls which contained the Biblical books of the Old Testament, the Jewish Tanach.The editors have taken care to give only what appears in the Dead Sea scrolls surviving texts, and not whole books. The most complete books therefore are Isaiah and Genesis as these are the best preserved among the Dead Sea Scrolls. The interesting facts to note are: Genesis and Exodus are connected in one original text which means they were seen as early as the first century before Christ as well established books. The idea that the first five books of the Bible were made up of four separate textual traditions, is given a fatal blow by the fact these were seen as complete in themselves. Second fact concerns the question of the Psalm 22 and the prophecy so important in the Christian world, that it predicts the piercing of hands and feet like in a crucifixion. Well there is a bit of confusion to this sentence meaning in later Hebrew texts. But the Dead Sea Scrolls Bible shows the Psalm did have the piercing comment there.It is not stressed but it should be remembered the original find used to have critics claiming the Dead Sea Scrolls will prove the Jews did not keep accurate copies of their scriptures and that many errors and changes would be found. But the fact is the Dead Sea Scrolls Bible reads like any other mainstream Bible. Anyone can read the Holy Bible with confidence because the Jews were extremely careful in their preservation of the sacred words.
⭐Not the best of conditions but necessary for referencing
⭐Excellent service and great items
⭐Excellent condition, well-packaged, prompt delivery AAA+++
⭐The Dead Sea Scrolls Bible
⭐The title is definitely some false advertising. Dont get me wrong the information and the notes are absolutely fascinating and they talk about how the people at Qumran thought that the books of 1 Enoch and Jubilees were absolutely inspired scripture they dont even bother translating them because of their own bias.Which kind of defeats the point of buying the Dead Sea scroll bible if you are not including several books that should be in the Dead Sea scroll bible.
