    Description

The standard edition of Sigmund Freud’s classic work on the psychology and significance of dreams What are the most common dreams and why do we have them? What does a dream about death mean? What do dreams of swimming, failing, or flying symbolize? First published in 1899, Sigmund Freud’s groundbreaking book, The Interpretation of Dreams, explores why we dream and why dreams matter in our psychological lives. Delving into theories of manifest and latent dream content, the special language of dreams, dreams as wish fulfillments, the significance of childhood experiences, and much more, Freud offers an incisive and enduringly relevant examination of dream psychology. Encompassing dozens of case histories and detailed analyses of actual dreams, this landmark work grants us unique insight into our sleeping experiences. Renowned for translating Freud’s German writings into English, James Strachey–with the assistance of Freud’s daughter Anna–first published this edition in 1953. Incorporating all textual alterations made by Freud over a period of thirty years, it remains the most complete translation of the work in print

    User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐It’s Freud at his best. For anyone interested in literature and art generally, this is a must read. It is Freud at some of his most clear, and accessible. It is a long book that demands attention and close reading but the reward is incredible. He really shows that dreams are not some sort of metaphysical transcendental realm, but they are our very mind replaying our life to ourselves, and Freud wants to see if there is a meaning to the symbols, which I think he shows. This addition is great, and I bought it specifically to write comments and what not in the margins, usually I do not write in my books, but I bought a second copy to do so.

⭐I love it, really gives a new perspective about dreams and you learn new things, I really like this book.

⭐I bought this for my 30 year old son because he has some crazy dreams and is interested in figuring them out. It has pages to write down your dreams, like a journal. Then , you can figure them out with the explanation part of the book.He enjoys the book!

⭐This is an very good edition, especially for the price. Strachey’s notes are thorough and welcome. However, the cover starts peeling after extensive use. Just keep it in mind; I don’t know if it’ll last forever.

    ⭐would buy again

⭐Just, it said there’d be no markings or highlights and there was. But the book itself is great

⭐978-0465019779would be better to have physical page number, otherwise it is impossible to use in a class.

⭐Some of it was hard to read, and some of it was repetitive, but overall it had interesting views in regards to dreams and the interpretations of dreams.

⭐Theres a bunch of reviews talking about the text size and such and i was afraid that they were true. But now that the book has arrived i see that the text size is completely normal and the same size text found in your average book.

⭐Good Book, Not sure if I entirely agree with everything said, see for example Why Freud was wrong by Richard Webster, but thought provoking and eminently readable. The baby and the bath water also springs to mind. The work of a genius.

    ⭐Extremely small print!

⭐I am not a Freudian. but I bought this to contrast against Jung. It is well printed and clean clear printing. Don’t be fooled by the cover pretending to be a hardback, it is paperback.

    ⭐Not a bad book.
