Description

Bring a taste of Vietnamese cuisine to your home with 100 fresh, authentic and delicious recipes from the owner of The Little Viet Kitchen, London.Born in a small village in the south of Vietnam, Thuy was surrounded by food and she grew up amidst livestock and fresh produce, with a wonderful variety of fruits, morning markets with freshly picked vegetables and the smells of traditional street food. It’s these memories that are the foundation of her food philosophy and culinary creations, and her landmark London restaurant, The Little Viet Kitchen, brings this true taste of Vietnamese cuisine to Islington. It is here that Thuy, along with her husband Dave, has created a dining experience combining the best of restaurateur precision and flair with the comforts of the home kitchen. Embracing all elements of Vietnamese cuisine, Thuy’s food enhances and showcases the natural textures and flavours of the organic ingredients she uses. Having moved to the UK aged seven, Thuy has a distinctive approach to Vietnamese cooking in the West, with an authentic core knowledge of Vietnamese culture and a deft understanding of the London restaurant and foodie scene, all of which is brought to life in these pages. Offering a fresh approach and insight into how to make the best of classic dishes and Vietnamese family favourites, it is Thuy’s expertise and memories that are the heart of each and every recipe. This book delves into Thuy’s journey from Vietnam to England, celebrating her love of Vietnamese cooking, culture and way of life and tantalizing the reader’s tastebuds alongside their imaginations, turning everyone’s kitchen into a Little Viet Kitchen.Beautiful photography by the brilliant David Loftus accompanies each recipe, all styled by Thuy herself.

User’s Reviews

Editorial Reviews: Review “I love the food and I love this book.” ―Robert Elms, BBC London“Author Thuy Diem Pham, who runs The Little Viet Kitchen restaurant in London, left Vietnam as a child, and her memories of a faraway country make a poignant introduction to this excellent book. The 100 traditional but updated recipes are the real deal, and the photography is sumptuous!” ―Delicious About the Author Thuy Diem Pham spent her early years in Vietnam before moving to the UK with her family when she was just seven years old. Thuy learnt her craft through studying traditional recipes and techniques, passed down to her by her mother and other family members. Without any formal chef training, Thuy and her husband Dave established a weekly supper club from their home in Angel, London, which grew in popularity and was booked up six months in advance. Eventually they took the plunge and opened The Little Viet Kitchen in Islington – and have even continued to run a supper club at the restaurant each month. Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Been using her recipe for Pho Ga for years. When I saw she had a cookbook I had to get it. Received a ton of compliments on the shrimp spring rolls.Warning, the Bun Ba Huy is awesome, but plan on at least a half day to prep and make. Still have yet to master it.

⭐I so enjoy this well made book. Very good instructions and ideas for making homemade Vietnamese recipes. Lovely pictures and information about the authors background/family.we’re extremely enjoyable. Would highly recommend!

⭐Definitely a good gift for those who love to cookAnd enjoy vietnemse food. Recipes are in detail descriptions

⭐Got this after watching the Uncle Rogers episode she was in. It was a gift for my husband that loves to cook. He loves it and is enjoying the stories and recipes. Can’t wait to try some of the food!

⭐The recipes a re recommended and are fairly easy to follow. The overall theme of the book is to enjoy food and family. This is an excellent resource. It is interesting to me how some people, like the author, can enjoy food so much without getting fat. I think her emphasis is on serving, and I think healthy food choices are important too. Still it is a bit of a paradox to relish food without adding the excess pounds. Bravo!

⭐Interesting recipies. But could have done with some better editing . For example, author mentions making sure the papaya remains crisp in one intro, but the recipie the intro is about doesn’t call for papaya. There were other errors which distracted from the recipies. Photos were also small, so they lack oomph. All that said, many of the recipies look interesting and the instructions are given decent enough write ups. Three and a half stars rounded up.

⭐I really love this cookbook. So far every recipe I’ve tried has been so delicious and easy to follow. I love eating Vietnamese food and usually only eat it when I visit my mom so this takes me back to my childhood. Best part is working with ingredients that I already have in my pantry to create an authentic meal.

⭐The book is beautifully made and the recipes look really good. I can’t wait to try everything. You can tell the author put a lot of thought and hardwork into this cook book. It’s almost like reading a good book but you also get recipes !

⭐A great quality recipe book, it looks aesthetically pleasing on your shelf even if you never open it. Even if you never make a recipe out of it, the stories behind the food and Thuy’s childhood etc make for great reading. The recipes require quite a lot of ingredients but as is typical with vietnamese food and the pictures always look mouthwatering.

⭐If your someone who wants to try out something different (even if you’re not professional cook) this is one cookbook your not going to keep on your bookshelf collecting dust,as all of the recipes are really easy to follow and you get great results at the end of it. All of the recipes are so adaptable, if you can’t get hold of a certain ingredient of you don’t like one of them, you can easily change it for something else.

⭐This book delivers on all levels. The dishes are varied and scrumptious. They may involve a lot of prep but they are well worth it. Search out the more rare ingredients and indulge in an explosion of flavours. I have made eight of the recipes so far a plan on making many more.

⭐Lovely book with delicious recipes to tempt the palate. Loving the fresh ingredients that fill this delightful book, and the exciting challenges it offers to someone who knows nothing about Vietnamese food! From pho to summer rolls to caramelised pork and salmon. Hot, cold, sweet, sour, spicy, nurturing, and always beautiful … Thuy walks us through it all.

⭐I’ve only cooked one recipe so far, but my veggie friend borrowed it and swears they’re better than from when he was on his travels.
