User’s Reviews

Editorial Reviews: Review “Distinguishes itself from previous translations in its first sentence.” ― Slate”Susan Bernofsky’s new, exacting translation shows just how ingenious the structure of [The Metamorphosis] is, and just how difficult it is to render Kafka’s German into English. She succeeds brilliantly, however, with a vivid fidelity to Kafka’s vision, driving home the way he makes us at once sympathetic to his anti-hero, Gregor Samsa, and repulsed by him.”” ― The Wichita Eagle”Vibrant . . . preserves the comedy as well as the tragedy of Kafka’s text.” ― Times Literary Supplement”This is the transforming text for you.” ― Richard Howard About the Author Franz Kafka (1883–1924) was one of the most important writers of the twentieth century. His major novels include The Trial, The Castle, and Amerika.Mark M. Anderson is Professor of Germanic Languages at Columbia University. Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Incredibly sad story about loneliness and maybe even illness. Wasn’t crazy about the ending, but I was definitely interested from the first sentence.I’m adding to this review because I’ve since re-read it several times and have actually fallen in love with the story. I no longer mind the ending and found that it’s a story I couldn’t get out of my head.

⭐FAMOUS BOOK A LOOK AT REALITY KAFKASHOULD READ THIS EVERY ONCE IN AWHILEPERSPECTIVES

⭐Save your money. It’s not a book, just a few pages brochure. The words are all pushing together and hard to see. What about just go online and read the free version? It’s much better than this cheap made thing!

⭐One of the great stories like Dorian Grey, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Romeo and Juliet. The idea is so interesting that it transcends the literature and is used in many other contexts.

⭐This is my second time reading it and I love it.

⭐This is a strong translation of a seminal work.Amazon needs to urgently revise their method for posting reviews. The negative review posted below by Steven Burnap applies to a wholly different text.On a broader note, there is a disturbing trend on Amazon towards this kind of sloppiness, and it undermines the value of a reference-rich website (e.g., this misplaced review, or posting wholly different texts for “Look Inside”, etc.)

⭐Excellent short novel. Very surreal.

⭐This book is one of those titles that will give something back. After reading this I felt as if a door opened in my mind that had been closed. This is a beautiful tale wrapped up in a tragedy and glued together in science fiction. Despite being fairly short, I’d recommend this to anyone who’s looking for an amazing read. The Metamorphosis is and will always be one of my favorite stories and this book allowed me to enjoy it anywhere without taking up much space.

⭐i am going to ace my oral presentation, it’s worth the extra 5 quid to spare me loads of research!! 😉

⭐Wortwörtlich aus dem deutschen übersetzt.! Sehr gut und leicht verständlich

⭐Highly condensed version of the original book.
