User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐With the end of the Ether Theory, and fixed reference frames in the universe, all motion had to be considered “Relative” (and reciprocal) to the participants. Lorentz, Poincare and Einstein (with Minkowski and Weyl) were the principal contributors, writing in German and French. This book is an early translation into English. The names are well known to science specalists (and beyond). Nowadays it is common to derive Relativity Theory from Maxwell’s Equations (although Maxwell thought they were in error!). Apparently that was not Einstein’s starting point. In any case, Planck championed Einstein and that settled it for History. But if (like me) you want to write on the subject, you are obligated to state exactly to what points each can claim priority.

⭐Original papers by Albert E., Great for it but you must be expecting the book is certainly difficult to understand.

⭐I had gone through this series of papers several years ago and found it ‘different’ in that the way the thinking was compared to what I had been exposed to while an undergrad. Now, a reread told me that it is just the way thinking was then, and is still good. No mysteries in it, just clear presentations based on what the writers had to work with at the time. And, considering it was all ‘paper and pencil’, no computers, should definitely make an impression on the level of thought and understanding was then in force.

⭐One of the truly amazing things about the Special Theory is that you only need a decent grasp of high school mathematics and science to fully understand the two original papers. (Depending on your high school you may need to brush up on partial derivatives, but that’s all.)The General Theory is something else again, but by reading around the equations and accepting the descriptions of what is being solved you can still gain some incredible insights into a great intellectual achievement.

⭐This book is a compilation of articles, which contributed most the development of the theory of relativity. Namely, they are articles written by H.A. Lorenz, A. Einstein, H. Minkowsky, and H. Weyl. Therefore, some library in my neighbourhood would have been available…..

⭐An indispensable book for those who want to study the theory of relativity. It contains the original papers of the field. It is always better to drink in loco…

⭐This is definitely not one of his easier reads. In fact, you may need prior knowledge to the subject, but other than that the book is great.

⭐I’m not happy with this book at all. I’m not a scientist outside of the field of information technology and I want something to explain Einstein’s theories that I could read. I read such a book when I was young. It’s out of print, but you can purchase it on Amazon used. It’s entitled “Relativity: The Special and the General Theory–A Clear Explanation that Anyone Can Understand” by Albert Einstein. That did it for me, this book put me to sleep.

⭐All the original relativity papers in one place by Lorentz, Einstein (all key papers), Minkowski etc. I’ve found over the months that when I’m stuck on a particular point in special or general relativity it helps tremendously to read about the problem as viewed by Einstein and co. Their exposition is so clear (particularly Einstein’s) that I find they can clarify where more recent authors can’t. Plus it’s so cheap! All articles are the originals but translated and noted by Sommerfeld! If I could give it 6 stars I would!

⭐a very good book

⭐Original papers about GR written by four scientific giants in early 20th century. The book is an indispensable part of a library on GR.

⭐Love the book…

⭐Si bien no es posible aprender GR y SR mediante los artículos originales, la perspectiva histórica complementa y enriquece de forma insospechada la formación.La edición es bella.
