Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐My PhD research was in Second Harmonic Generation and I bought this classic reference to get more details on derivations in general and was not disappointed. Some of the figures and formulas I wasn’t able to find in other textbooks like Midwinter & Zernike or Boyd. I agree with other reviewers that some knowledge of the subject (and its brand of math) are necessary.
⭐The condition is great.
⭐This book can be best appreciated when one already has a basic understanding of nonlinear optics, and wants to go beyond some hand waving pictures to delve into maths and subtleties behind the phenomena. That is, if you are just a nonexpert who wants to know what nonlinear optics is, this book might not be the one for you. But if you are a serious physics student who works in nonlinear optics or atomic physics, it’s a good reference book.
⭐This book is best for physics students. Boyd’s book is a good starting point. Shen’s book offers a lot more physics insight.
