Description

They say I am a queen. They say I married a monster. That I did so willingly. They say he cannot die, that he does not age. That together, we rule a ravaged world. They say I used to be one of them, but now I am a traitor. They say many things, all which I cannot remember, but … I fear what they say is true. Then there is what they don’t say, what I see in their eyes—The king terrifies them. He cannot be stopped. And, most worrisome of all …He is coming for me.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I really liked the Bargainer series by this same author, and so was holding out hope for these books, however I was largely disappointed. Reading the Fallen World Series was a lot like sitting through a fifteen hour viewing of the flogging scene in The Passion of the Christ on repeat. The characters are well fleshed out, the world largely two-dimensional but decently described for a first-person narrative, and the events contained enough action to keep the reader gripped. It was difficult to sympathize with the protagonists as they were selfish, self-sabotaging, and fairly self-absorbed though I suppose that can be forgiven as they are self-described as narcissistic and conscienceless. The events quickly scaled into an ever-increasing repetition of dramatic separation that completely negated any character or relationship development up to that point. And the plot summation was largely dissatisfactory after having just endured three novels of almost endless torment. I found myself skimming through whole chapters much as one fast-forwards through the gory bits of movies just to see if the torture would ever end. If you watch films like Amazing Grace where you have to sit through two hours of pain for three minutes of victory and think to yourself “How could I have made the suffering ten times as long?” these books are for you.

Luckily I fell asleep because I wanted to write this review before I got lost in the world of the final book… I have no doubt it will be just as intense as the last two if not more.I have had zero expectations for this series as I didn’t know what to expect when I first started reading. The world that Serenity Freeman (our most badass heroine) is beyond anything that I can comprehend… while reading this I’ve had crazy dreams that I think no doubt steam from the vivid imagery that Laura Thalassa has brought to life in The Fallen World collection. I can honestly say that I have read pretty much every version of romance novels, with my favorite always coming back to the paranormal, but this is in a category of its own. Nothing prepares you from chapter to chapter as things unravel in a way you can’t even guess. Similar to a soap opera, The Queen of Traitors picks up at top speed where The Queen of All that Dies left off. It’s clear at this point to me that this author does not follow the typical pattern where you ramp up and leave your audience at a cliff hanger into the next book… oh, no the entire story is a free for all and no one is safe!SPOILERS!!!!The pregnancy was brilliant. This allowed Serenity to develop even more as a character along with her enemy/husband, Montes Lazuli. They are drawn together even more with this life they share and you are momentarily given hope that light can come out of this darkness that surrounds them. False! I tried not to get too attached to this plot line because Laura Thalassa’s plan is not to make the reader comfortable but to startle and provoke. I think she played this twist out perfectly to bring us back to what the characters are really about… they hate to love each other and its so INTENSE! As I neared the end I saw I had about 10 minutes left in the book and realized our female lead was not going to be giving her POV any longer (at least for a while) so I was dumbfounded as to what on earth would fill the following pages… I can’t say I was overly jazzed at the timeframe we move through and end on however I trust the author to have a bigger picture in mind for the following book.My goal is to finish the next book and put this series to rest for a while real soon. I almost don’t want to read it so quickly as I don’t want Serenity’s story to come to an end… it’s hard to say goodbye to characters you grow so attached to. I have recommended this series to basically everyone I know that reads as it truly has something for everyone. This isn’t a safe and sweet romance, it has claws and fangs. Luckily, Laura Thalassa has bestowed upon us other works that I can’t wait to devour as well as the second installment of The Four Horsemen, War coming in May 2019.Bottom line, read this. You won’t be sorry! I am very thankful to have found this author and know I will enjoy her wonderful stories for years to come.

⭐Ohmyohmyohmyohmy!!!!!! What are you doing to me Laura Thalassa?! The Queen of Traitors picks up where the first book left off (if you’ve not read it, there are minor spoilers ahead. Consider yourself warned!). Serenity has been taken by the Resistance, but not before her memory was wiped by the King’s right hand man. She doesn’t remember anything, giving the Resistance nothing, but allows them to plant seeds of doubt in her mind.As I said in my review of the first book, Serenity is one of my favorite characters. She’s a strong female lead, but she struggles in this book. She’s lost her memories (which are quickly restored) but with it comes the doubts and hatred for Lazuli. She questions his actions, not understanding….or maybe not willing to believe his motives. She’s dying though and knows that Montes will not let that happen. She’s tired and ready to accept her fate, if only he will let her.Montes is a bit unstable in this book. He lost his best friend and now he’s losing Serenity too. He fears nothing except death and he will do whatever it takes to save her from it.This book is full of betrayals from their closest friends and themselves. Instead of working as a team, Montes and Serenity work against each other, antagonizing and loving all at the same time. Overall I LOVED every word! It was terrifying, dark, and lovely all at once. Is that even possible?! But that ending!!! I’m dying. I can’t take it!!! What the heck was Montes thinking?! I need the next book ASAP please!!!!

⭐Some spoilers. This is strangely addictive, kept me reading on. I still don’t quite understand the relationship between Serenity and the King, but hey its the main part of the story. In a way the Kimg begins to experience his own medicine, which is both due and tragic in its own way. The part that got me most is the epilogue… Wow! So much time passes and yet still… The ending is a good one though. Will she still love him? Or, will she go back to him after all that time…?

⭐I don’t know how I feel about this series… I like the setting, I suppose. I can’t believe I’m saying this but there’s too much romance! Every chapter has a romance scene and I appreciate the romance less and less. Also my mind still hasn’t decided whether I think their relationship is creepy or not so I can’t enjoy the book without thinking “does she have Stockholm Syndrome?”… Also I thought the whole “I hate you” thing was dealt with in the first book, but here it is again. So why four stars? More like 3.5 really, but these books are so easy to read, I’m pretty sure I finished this in 3 hours. I’m not sure I’ll pick up the next one just because story wise there’s not much going for this series and I have almost 300 books on my to-read shelf…

⭐I only wanted to read book one, after I read The Four Horsemen, just to see what it’s like. This series is another addictive read.I can’t say why that is. The characters are not very likeable. And the plot is to futuristic for my liking. So on the surface this series has nothing to compel me to read on. Yet I have to read on…

⭐I read the first book in a day, and immediately downloaded this one; I was up half the night reading! I could not put it down. The story, so many twists and turns. I wanted to hate Montes because even when he is trying to protect Serenity he isn’t, he’s suiting himself. He doesn’t understand what is happening between them. And the ending! OMG!! I now have to wait a full month for the next one book to find out what is going to happen. I can not wait for the next book. Write fast Laura, I will be awake thinking about these two for a long, long time. Bloody Brilliant!

⭐There is so much I found wrong with this one, I don’t know where to begin. Once again there is the dub con issues I had a problem with in the first novel. That is made worse by the fact that as far as I can tell, the king has no redeeming qualities. At least with the 4 horsemen series, their alien thinking can be put down to the fact they are not human. The king is human, so he just comes across as horrible.Unfortunately I did not finish and will not be reading book 3. If you are into this type of book, you might like it. But it isn’t for me.
