Description

Before the Patriot Act, there was . . . The R Document
As crime and violence threaten to engulf America, the President proposes a daring new amendment to the Constitution, allowing the Bill of Rights to be suspended during times of national emergency.

To its supporters the 35th Amendment is the only way to keep America from sliding into chaos. Its opponents see the Amendment as an outright attack on freedom.

Christopher Collins, the newly-appointed Attorney General, has reservations about the Amendment, but feels confident that it would not be abused in the way its more hysterical opponents fear. Then a deathbed confession from his predecessor warns him to beware of something called “The R Document”.

What is The R Document, and what does it have to do with the proposed 35th Amendment? As state after state ratifies the Amendment, pushing it ever closer to becoming the law of the land, Collins must get to the bottom of an unimaginable conspiracy–before time runs out for the fundamental liberties of all Americans.

First published in 1976, Irving Wallace’s bestselling thriller is more timely than ever before.

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ Wallace must have been thinking of “Lame-Brained” Joe Biden when he wrote this novel.

⭐ 4 Stars because I haven’t finished reading it! Reading it now after avoiding iit for the last 38 years, yup! Senior in High School @ the time I first spotted it and chose a different book to read. My mistake! I’m not even allowed to hit the person who recommended iit this either. First hard bound book I’ve bought since getting my first kindle fire in 2008 I think. Recommended? Yes!

⭐ I enjoyed reading the book. Its in excellent condition. Very quick service. And very fairly priced. Very pleasant experience. I enjoyed the book.

⭐ Great product and speedy delivery.

⭐ I read this book in 1976. Am re-reading. Still relevant. Especially in today’s political climate. Good read.

⭐ IRVING WALLACE THE R DOCUMENTHate is not the word I would charitably chooseDisappointed would be better. The intellectualaspect of the purchase is sufficient unlessthe problem of the purchase has compromisedthe whole of the text. I have not read it pageby page to learn this about the item. The issue is that the book’s back is fallenapart and is unserviceable for hand-heldreading. The book was ordered for anotherperson, and that one could only return it to meas unsatisfactory. But in this life, stuff happens.

⭐ The book had mold under the paper jacket. I tossed it in the trash where it belongs.

⭐ I read this book around 1980. While I’m sketchy on details, the main plot has stayed with me. This was a page turner dealing with politics, cloak and dagger conspiracies. All with a reluctant hero who is in the dark on what the cryptic “R” document is and who he can trust as elements are revealed. I remember thinking this would make a great movie, then. Now, it’s just as relevant. Still good movie material. My old hardcover May still be around, but I’d love to see this as a Kindle book.

⭐ How does one control crime? By repressing it or by alleviating those factors that caused it in the first place? That may have been a loaded question but it is essentially what this book is trying to say.Vernon Tynan, the `Hoover-esque’ director of the FBI believes that by bringing about a police state he can reduce crime, and he is willing to do anything to achieve that goal. Christopher Collins, the Attorney General and our protagonist finds out Tynans intentions to undermine the Bill of rights by passing the 37th amendment, and joins forces with his the opponents of the amendment to try to stop it from becoming law.The story is near identical to any other conspiracy story with cover-ups and secret documents, left wing opponents etc… Despite this however the book is still interesting and Wallace creates his characters and the setting with great skill. An interesting quick read.

⭐ Love is the wrong word. Fear describes it best.Because we are not in the forward to this book.Suspending the Bill of Rights by staging faux terror attacks.Marshall Law.Everyone should read this book NOW and be afraid.Be very afraid. And stand up for our country.P.S. The guy with the mold under the cover actually hasmold between his ears.
