Description

Edward Armstead has lived much of his life in the shadow of his famous media lord father. When his father dies, he leaves a will that makes it nearly impossible for Edward to keep the thign he wants most – The New York Record – his father’s flagship newspaper. Edward’s determination to exceed his father drives him to embark on two obssesive quiests – to make the New York Reporter the number one nerwspaper in the city – and the the world – and to make his father’s young mistress his own.

In a swiftly paced and prescient story reaching out of Manhattan into the inner circles of power in England, France, Spain, Switzerland, and Isarael, a growing wave of violence gives the publisher sensational headlines, exclusive to the Record, that turn Armstead into a media legend almost overnight.

As Weston begins to believe his own hype, considering himself media’s ‘Almighty’, a young, prize-winning investigative reporter on his staff, Victoria Weston, begins to suspect that someone is manipulating front-page news. As she follows her investigation through France and back to Manhattan, she begins to suspect the terrible truth.

This novel brings Rupert Murdoch and the current string of media scandals immediately to mind. A sobering tale of power, corruption, and madness at the highest levels from a master craftsman of the written word.

⭐ You’ll read this book in a weekend. While the main character is a bit far-fetched, still if you read this book understanding that, it’s really fun to see how it all plays out.I wish the character of Victoria had been better described at the start, perhaps given a bit more of a positive attitude about her own abilities and talent. Instead she comes across as a weak person and not one who would have the gumption to handle what comes her way at the end of the novel. But, it still is fun to read Irving Wallace’s books and watch him explore our world with really fascinating characters and situations.

⭐ Irving Wallace is a good story-teller. I have read other of his books. The Almighty was an interesting story, but below his usual quality. Also, the transcription to Kindle was not good! Lots of breaks at strange places, and wrong words (example: “ri” often appeared as an “n” Giving the benefit of the doubt, I assume it was scanned in and NOT proofed.

⭐ Good grief. Whatever happened to careful editing? No excuse for all the typos. I gave it a 2 only for Wallace’s usual entertaining storyline and plot.

⭐ Mr. I. Wallace knows how-to-well develop characters for minds-eye staging. One is there with the characters, thinking, making, being and re-living the critical goals to find, at the end, the folly. The tale 1st told biblically in Cain & Abel. Recurrent in life, this is an empire of same with Can-Do spirit. You must read for the conflict and W5 (who, what, when, where, why). Teaches us of oneself and others. Learn Be-nice at will-readings and family-peyton-place-drama’s. Stop taking everything at face value to learn, “you mean we could have been friends all these years” (quote from “whatever-happened-to-baby-jane”) & relevant to The Almighty.

⭐ I enjoyed this. There is suspense and I found it very thrilling! It is sad to think that fame can be so overwhelming as to attempt to control others.

⭐ It was a real pleasure to rediscover Irving Wallace. “The Almight” was a page-turner. Only negative was that I felt the protaganists’ actions at the conclusion were a little unrealistic.

⭐ Great book and story line

⭐ Have not read Wallace in over 30 years and now I know way. one two three four five six seven.

⭐ I enjoyed reading the book. Its in excellent condition. Very quick service. And very fairly priced. Very pleasant experience. I enjoyed the book.

⭐ I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. Lots of detail and I kept forgetting the story line.
