Description

“I thought that I had already thought about everything you could think about Love when Henry Drummond’s sermon fell into my hands.
My life changed a lot from the moment I read the words in this book and tried to put his teaching into practice.”

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.”
At some point, all of us have heard this passage from St. Paul’s Letter to the Corinthians. But do we really understand his message?
At the end of the 19th century, the young missionary Henry Drummond was asked to replace a famous preacher. Though at the beginning he did not convince the audience, they were soon captivated by his analysis of the words of the Apostle Paul.
This sermon, The Greatest Thing in the World, has become a classic and is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful texts ever written on love. Drummond broke it down into the following nine elements: patience, kindness, generosity, humility, gentleness, dedication, tolerance, sincerity and innocence.
Contrary to what we are used to hearing, the greatest treasure in the spiritual life is not faith, but love. No matter what your religious beliefs are, this feeling is, without doubt, the most rewarding way to live.
In The Supreme Gift, Paulo Coelho adapts Henry Drummond’s text, offering a real and powerful message that will help us incorporate love into our daily life and experience all its transformational power in our lives.

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ Coming from a far right Evangelical background the teachings in this book were very familiar; however, the author did take some liberties in his expounding on the root topic: love. It’s written in a manner that was a bit too “preachy”, literally, and way too “churchy” for my taste. I was looking forward to something that expanded my mind- expounding my thinking- but instead I got an old fashioned Sunday morning lecture from a different pulpit, with basically the same old message. This is, indeed, an easy read, I read it in under 30mins, with distractions. However, if you don’t want a Sunday morning sermon this book is one to avoid. If, by chance, a sermon might do you some good I suggest that you give it a try! It has many reiterations on the importance of good old fashioned love!

⭐ Paulo Coelho, once again, manages to take a simple concept and dissect in such a way that I am forever changed. In this adaptation of Henry Drummond’s story, the topic of love as it’s spelled out in Paul’s letter to the Corinthians is applied to every day life. In this, we are all given reason to pause as we reflect on the areas we are failing to love, and the simple ways we can make that change. The book is short, but it’s a heavy read.

⭐ What an amazing sermon coupled with Paulo Coelho’s interpretation and this book is an absolute home run. Based on the famous Love Chapter in 2nd Corinthians, it has literally redefined my definition of love and the purpose of my life.I highly recommend this book and pray its message touches your life as significantly as it did mine.

⭐ By the end of the book I feel a sudden calmness in my soul as if all the unanswered questions have been answered though the various characteristics of lived defined in the book by the author. We all must have loved and lost , and seeked answers to questions that were never answered. Definitely on of those books which will expand your horizon, generate more love in your heart and make your more lovable.

⭐ …of what’s important in life, “a life long enough for us to devote ourselves to learning to Love.” A reminder and gentle guidance for bringing real LOVE back into our hearts. — Was worth my time. Recommended.

⭐ This was a gift to my son who has already read at least five of Paul Coelho’s books. He said it was a short book (approx 100 pages) but it was by far one of the best he had read by the author and he would read it again because there was so much to be gained in reading it.

⭐ Great short book on what it means to love. We can all to quickly scold and curse others even those close to us. Even those we love. This book discusses how difficult it is to be vulnerable, to let your guard down and truly love all people.

⭐ I’m not a religious person at all but the message in this book is something the world needs. I’m a firm believer that if you are a kind human and spread love not hate you could heal the world one person at a time. This was a great read and a wonderful message.

⭐ Literally this is bran food people, the entire time reading this. I was like “how can I be more like this?” It’s literally affected my daily life with this amazing message in mind. Strongly suggest you get this book.

⭐ This very short book focuses on the section of Paul’s Letter to the Corinthians that begins “Love is patient, love is kind.” Unlike Coelho’s other well known books that explore mystical approaches to religious thought, this book discusses verses of the new testament already familiar to most Christians, and attempts to explain the primary place from which love comes. The expected answer is given; God is love. Nothing new here.
