⭐This study analyzes, compares and contrasts various religious thoughts of gnosticism, its derivations and multiple companions sharing some of the same or similar premises. This is an illuminating and engaging academic text that glorifies intellectual freedom and infinite cognitive possibilities of human interpretive faculty, to some degree considering gnostic deconstructive philosophy a predecessor to Derrida. To Couliano, religious ideas of all kinds, as well as science and secular philosophies are all engaging in the same chess-like mind games, the games demanding of a courageous participant to demonstrate intellectual capabilities and imaginative creativity, challenging canons, authorities, and social structures. As a dissident from behind the Iron Curtain, Couliano more than anything values cognitive liberty and despises any form of intellectual oppression, which as the author believes, “may seriously jeopardize two of the noblest conquests of Western mind and society: that freedom of thinking out everything to its ultimate consequences should never be interfered with by any authority; and that the dangers of freedom are not lessened by its suppression.” No wonder that “they” cowardly killed him, scared of him, his ideas and his unyielding devotion to Liberty as humanity’s collective gnostic (and cosmic) heritage — the gift of Sophia.

⭐Not only is the book what I’ve been looking for, its in near mint condition. Thank you!

⭐Indeed looks like new.

⭐It is a classic in the field of the study of religion, with a methodology that has not yet become a model for new studies, and I never had a clean “new” copy.

⭐Ioan Culianu, handpicked successor to Mircea Eliade, renegade & popular Professor at Chicago Divinity School, self-professed practitioner of magic and rising star within world academia within religious studies, The mysteriously assassinated magician and political disadent, a defector from Communist Romania evolved into an increasingly renowned scholar whose unorthox exegesis of the variant strains of emergent gnosticism morphologically resonant in our present age of desacralization and rampant nihilism profoundly challenges our consentual half-consciousness and ignorance, Truth as nothing but the unfoldment of the religious collective unconsciousness within the historical processess which act as binary metaprograms within the time & space as a fiction within the resonance of the unitary feild of ontology as aternating presencing truthful lies as time and space. Which he claimed to be able to change through the praxis of magic within insubstantial shfting fields we within programmed human culture in delusion beleive to be ‘objective reality’.Wake up, open your eyes to the words of this grimoire or game we live thinking we are free. Culianu: “mind. it’s all in the mind” and we can ill afford to be unmindful of what this seeker on a quest offers us. A heteorodx wisdom to awaken us with from the nightmare of humanity’s history heretofar largely written in blood. A unique and feasibly transformative book!

⭐I recommend this book.Culianu is a great author and this book was one of his last books before he was killed.
