⭐Sounds like Socrates was an influencer back in his time that they thought deserved death, unfortunately. He was very self-righteous even up until his death. His friends were trying to save him and he wasn’t having it. He had a point that if he did escape his fate that he would not be a model patriot of his Country that he felt was expectant of all citizens.Even though Plato claimed they would have been fine if he fled Athens, Socrates felt it wasn’t right, especially after he defended himself in court with all his might. He did though ask for a different sentence other than death since he was old and had sons but they ruled death again. Socrates tried to convince the citizens that they are responsible for their own moral attitudes, thus his acceptance of death in the end.

⭐if you are at a time in life when philosophy may hold some allure, this very brief taste of Socrates as it did me will cause some to read on for guidance about the perilous times we live in.

⭐Bought this item for a college class and the conditions good and so is the price. It does it’s job.

⭐i did not read the reviews closely enough, but i would have figured this wouldn’t be a problem: the book does NOT include the entire phaedo!!! why would they do that??? this slim little number is only just under sixty pages as is. i can’t see how it would have affected anything negatively and can only see how it would have been a good thing to just have included the entire phaedo. it probably would have been a more convenient book if they’d just included it, the book is too thin to comfortably hold and turn pages. what you get instead is a book that leaves out basically an entire dialogue. useless!!!i direct everyone interested in the entire hackett translations of these four dialogues to get the five dialogues. it includes an extra dialogue, the meno, placed in the middle of these dialogues. i was hoping to avoid that with this edition, and read about the trial and death of socrates, my personal hero, in a more literary way, but life could not oblige. thanks, hackett!please help the negative reviews get more exposure! they seem to be more on point than the positive reviews

⭐Plato’s Socratic dialogues have cemented themselves as some of the most important philosophical works in human history, and this publication is no exception. A fascinating exploration of piety, justice, and legal philosophy, Plato illustrates Socrates’ trial in an intriguing way that could benefit any person in the modern era. Additionally, Plato’s Socrates is more eloquent and informative than Xenophon’s, creating a character as interesting and tragic as he is brilliant.

⭐This was the book necessary for my introduction to political philosophy @ Harvard. My professor said we needed it for the next week and thanks to the next day shipping guarante I received it the next day mid afternoon. This book was only useful to us for Plato’s “The Apology” but I’m sure to keep this on my shelf and read the rest od Socrates’s trial. Overall it’s worth the 6 dollars it’s just like buying a big Mac, but you get to enjoy this one longer.

⭐As expected. Great book on philosophy, many interpretations come from this book, but it is up to the reader to pull out what they please.

⭐A good philosophical book. A lot of interesting points to get someone thinking. A lot of it can be related to the present day, which in some aspect is frightening. If it wasn’t for my history class, I’d never have read it though.

⭐Excellent…good book for school studies

⭐very good

⭐Way too much money for what you get.

⭐If you’re looking for a book which challenges what you know, what you value and how you should live – this is it. Written 1,800 years ago, and more relevant than anything you can buy today.

⭐Great book
