⭐Fun to imagine Liggett’s voice as I read this book. I only wish every chapter included, “…suffering as they have never suffered before.”I have watched a few TDF’s while on the trainer and I picked up a lot of the stuff in the book just from watching race coverage. Still there are a lot of interesting things in the book. This book is interesting as a historical source document because it was written/edited after Lance Armstrong won 7 TDF but before his disastrous comeback. I started cycling after all that so it is very interesting to see how he was regarded in that interim.I will say the writing is light. There are no forays into what cycling means to the author or how the history of the Tour interfaces with broader history or anything like that. It’s pretty straightforward here’s-everything-about-this-race.I like it.

⭐This wonderful book answered all my numerous questions as I watched the Tour de France this year. I do hope that an updated edition might be on the horizon, as this one was published in 2005 at the height of Lance Armstrong’s popularity. But other than that, this is a very valuable reference, especially for new fans of the Tour de France.

⭐Learned a lot which is what I wanted. Also got tired of the constant definitions for terms already defined but in end, it served its purpose. This book REALLY needs an update. Way too many references to Lance Armstrong and all his “record” performances. As another reviewer noted, it would take relatively little time to update, and would then be so much better.

⭐This is an excellent book for new viewers of the Tour de France. I had to scratch my head when I first watched the race, but this book is a great guide to read when you have a question about why they do things the way they do in the Tour. One of the authors, Phil Leggett, is one of the commentators for the Tour and a very knowledgable one at that. The book is written in an easy to understand manner. After watching the Tour for several years now, I still have to flip through the book to learn something new or refresh my memory.

⭐I bought this for my husband and he seemed to devour it. So I guess he found it interesting. He never misses a single stage of the tour and has watched it for probably 25 years. I definitely recommend this product.

⭐Phil Liggett, one of the most knowledgeable cycling commentators in the business, breaks it down for both the novice TdF viewer as well as providing nuggets for the annual viewer. You’ll enjoy the upcoming race from July 2 – 24, 2011 on Versus more (with Bob Roll and Paul Sherwin) having read this book and keeping it along side you for reference.

⭐It says its for Dummies and I found it did not reveal much more than what I could pick up on TV watching the Tour.

⭐I concur with the negative reviews here. Unclear writing, sloppy (more likely non-existent) editing and proofreading, useless fluff, so much repetition. Some good, basic material. Thanks to one reviewer for the suggestion to see Wikipedia’s entry. Good idea.

⭐Detailed, and well laid out with plenty of information on the team strategy and tactics used by riders from the early days of Le Tour to modern times. Good background on peripheral matters relating to cycling such as other major races, media coverage, rules, routes etc., etc.Certainly for me this is a book that always comes out of the cupboard before every tour and is useful getting up to date with some facts about the history of this great event. It is the greatest FREE sporting event in any sport across the globe —– hundreds of thousands of people leave their homes every day for three weeks to watch the breakaways and peloton passing their homes, villages, towns and cities, and millions watch on tv everywhere —– it’s a fantastic event.

⭐I enjoy following the Tour de France but have often been at a loss to know what was going on. This book breaks down the information in a relatively simple way although some of it is still very technical. My biggest gripe about this book is that it is an edition from 2005 and desperately needs a new edition. In 2005 Lance Armstrong had not been ‘outed’ as a drugs cheat. As a consequence it grates when they heap praise on him and constantly refer to him in a flattering light.

⭐This book provides useful background to the Tour but sadly it is now very out of date. It was written when Lance Armstrong was at his peak and a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then. Needs updating badly. My other slight criticism is that it is rather repetitive. So one gets told several times that Tommy Simpson died on Mont Ventoux, and the significance of the jerseys. Still if you have an interest sparked by Bradley’s magnificent win, then it’ll certainly help you understand more and prepare yourself for next year’s defence. Allez Wiggo!

⭐I bought this as i love watching Le Tour but didn’t know how any of it works, ie who gets points and for what, how the shirts are awarded, etc. It seems to be answering all my questions and more and is packed with info and anecdotes. I will be a Le Tour dummy no longer. Excellent.

⭐Very informative & useful book , would recommend
