⭐This collection presents essays from Merold Westphal, Ben Vedder, Paul Moyaert, James Faulconer, Jean-Luc Marion, Marlene Zarader, and Beatrice Han. It comes in two parts—a first half focused on hermeneutics, and a second half presenting and addressing the work of Jean-Luc Marion. The discussion by and about Marion is especially useful, since it presents some important critiques of his position alongside one of his more important essays (“The Event, the Phenomenon, and the Revealed”). The four essays making up the first part of the volume are also important—perhaps especially the essay by Paul Moyaert, whose essential work on the nature of the symbolic is largely unavailable in English. Gathering reflections on hermeneutics and phenomenology from many of the best thinkers in continental philosophy of religion, this volume is worth reading carefully.

⭐This is a first-rate collection of essays by a very prestigious collection of scholars on the topic of (French) phenomenology. The essays are very insightful, engaging and illuminating.Jean-Luc Marion’s work can be very challenging. His essay is especially illuminating and clear, perhaps the single best essay capturing the essence of his work that is available. The other essays discussing his work are also very insightful and interesting.
