⭐When I was studying for my Master’s Degree at MIT, I took courses both on electromagnetics and on communication theory. This was different from many of my comrades, who concentrated on one or the other. I was trying to meld the ideas behind both in my mind. I was far from the best student, and I did not succeed in this melding. This book claims to do what I could not; combine communication as described by Shannon’s theory of information, and the propagation of electromagnetic waves as described by Maxwell’s theory of electromagnetism. The book claims to show that Shannon’s information-theoretic limits are expressions of the laws of physics.I am not aware of any other literature which combines these. They are treated individually in numerous sources. As I wrote above, I was far from the best graduate student at MIT. I can read this book and understand somewhat the topics being discussed. I am not a capable of determining if the results are valid are not. I would leave that to those who possessed the same wisdom as my professors.If its results are valid, I would say this is a very important book. Just as Maxwell’s A Treatise of Electricity & Magnetism combined results from Faraday, Ampere, etc. into a single coherent theory, this book combines results from Maxwell, Shannon, Einstein, and the quantum mechanics into a coherent theory. The comparison to Maxwell’s work is not a happenstance nor is it done lightly. From my narrow view of the subject matter itself and what has previously been done in these areas; I would put this book at the same level of importance as Maxwell’s. I would leave it to those with more wisdom than me to determine if this commendation is justified. If so: Wow!
