    Description

Recent advances in Wireless Power Transmission (WPT) technologies have enabled various engineering applications with potential product implementation. WPT can be utilized to charge batteries in various pieces of equipment without the need for a wired connection. Energy can be harvested from ambient RF and microwave radiation and 1 million kW microwaves can be transmitted from space to the ground. This book covers all the theory and technologies of WPT, such as microwave generators with semi-conductors and microwave tubes, antennas, phased arrays, beam efficiency, and rectifiers (rectenna). The authors also discuss coupling WPT. Applications, such as energy harvesting, sensor networks, point-to-point WPT, WPT to moving targets (airplane, vehicle, etc.) and Solar Power Satellite are also presented.

    User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐This work is the definitive reference on wireless power transmission by radio waves. Shinohara is unmatched in his understanding and communication of both the fundamentals and the latest developments in this important and fascinating field. He buttresses this readable and well-organized presentation with an outstanding collection of references. Wireless power history, theory, sources, receivers, and applications are covered conscientiously and adroitly. The book answers common technical questions and connects disparate pieces, such as why rectenna arrays behave differently than ordinary antenna arrays and why a rectenna utilizing a single diode can outperform a four-diode bridge rectifier as well as why it can approach 100% efficiency. The only minor shortcoming of the book is that it is not entirely up to date on U.S. SSP concepts in that it omits the Modular Symmetrical Concentrator (MSC) and Solar Power Satellite by means of Arbitrarily Large PHased Array (SPS-ALPHA) concepts. One can consult Mankins’ “The Case for Solar Power Satellites” for coverage of these. If you have a technical interest in wireless power, RFID, or solar power satellites, this book is required reading and will prove to be an invaluable reference.

⭐Great book! Has everything I expected. I do however would have liked better quality images. Most of them are blurry and black and white. I normally would not care but sometimes the reading refers to details in the images which are impossible to discern.
