⭐ Early in the book, a police lieutenant tells the protagonist that being overconfident is a sure way to get sucker-punched but the latter doesn’t heed the warning. The plot is rather typical: a cad marries a homely rich heiress for money and then plots to murder her with the help of her comely secretary. The story is told in flashback so the outcome is more or less known from the start. Chase still manages to add a few twists and turns along the way. But there’s a feeling you’ve read something like it before.
⭐ This one is a real thriller. In the same class as “Tiger by the tail” or “One Bright Summer Morning”. Enjoyed reading it. Hope Amazon brings all the Chase titles to the kindle library.
