Description

People don’t understand love. If they did, they’d get why dance prodigy Karma Clark just can’t say goodbye to her boyfriend, Danny. No matter what he says or does or how he hurts her, she can’t stay angry with him . . . and can’t stop loving him. But there’s a reason why Karma is helpless to break things off: she’s been shot with a love arrow.

Aaryn, son of Cupid, was supposed to shoot both Karma and Danny but found out too late that the other arrow in his pack was useless. And with that, Karma’s life changed forever. One pregnancy confirmed. One ballet scholarship lost. And dream after dream tossed to the wind.

A clueless Karma doesn’t know that her toxic relationship is Aaryn’s fault . . . but he’s going to get a chance to make things right. He’s here to convince Danny to man up and be there for Karma. But what if this god from Mount Olympus finds himself falling in love with a beautiful dancer from Wisconsin who can never love him in return?

This fast-paced debut novel explores the internal & external conflicts of a girl who finds herself inexplicably drawn to a boy who seemingly doesn’t reciprocate her feelings, touching on the issues of love, sex and responsibility, with a heroine struggling to control her destiny–perfect for fans of Katie McGarry’s novels and MTV’s 16 and Pregnant.

User’s Reviews

Review “This tale of Cupid meets teen mom is unique . . . for fans of fantasy fiction and mythology, such as Aimee Carter’s ‘The Goddess Test’ series or Rick Riordan.” —SLJ“A sweet high-school twist on Greek mythology with added substance about teen parenting and breaking out of a bad relationship.” —Booklist“A great mythological take on love, heartache, and teen pregnancy.” —VOYA“Gorzelanczyk’s debut blends a light myth-meets-modern premise with weightier reflections about the struggles of a teenage parent . . . entertaining.” —Publishers Weekly

⭐ Arrows is a smart, quick read that has a thoughtful balance of real world, contemporary struggles, combined with a touch of fantasy that spices up the story in all the right places.Instead of rehashing tired YA tropes, Arrows digs deeper into an unconventional, yet all too common, experience of teenage pregnancy, and its impact on not only the lives of the mother and child, but also their family and friends. the author explores their experience with such honesty and clarity that the reader can’t help but admire Karma’s determination, sympathize with her sister’s protective frustration, and cringe at Danny’s callous attitude towards the mother of his child. The fantasy elements were very well done. The concept of a race of mini-gods, Cupids, that cause humans to fall in love could seem puerile, but the author masterfully treats the concept, creating a swoon-worthy flawed love interest in Aaryn. As with Karma, Aaryn, for all his divine upbringing, is delightfully down to earth (pun intended), and the reader is delighted to watch him grow into his wings…or will he? No spoilers here!

⭐ I read this book in two nights and really enjoyed it.Arrows is the story of Aaryn, a cupid from Mount Olympus, and Karma, a dance prodigy from a small town in Wisconsin. In the beginning of the book, Aaryn is on Earth for his first arrow assignment as a wannabe cupid. When he reaches for his second arrow to complete the match between a girl and her homecoming date, he realizes he is short one arrow and it’s too late to fix his mistake. He and his proctor decide to lie about the error and go on living their lives as immortal beings.Fast forward one year, and dance prodigy Karma Clark’s life has been turned upside down–but she’s not a character who decides to play the victim. Instead, a year later as a teen mom, Karma is working REALLY hard to get her life back on track. Too bad the one person consistently standing in the way is the one person she thinks she loves–the father of her baby, Danny.Danny is part typical teenager, part messed up creep. He doesn’t have hardly anything to do with his baby daughter, Nell, and instead likes to spend his time chugging beer with his buddies. He gets annoyed with Karma, but stays with her out of convenience–she doesn’t expect him to help support Nell financially, which he thinks might change if he hightails it out of their life.Once Aaryn is sent to Earth to fix his mistake, he meets Karma and everything begins to change for both characters. I think teen girls will love this story of an unlikely couple, rooting for them to do the impossible: be together.I recommend this book to readers who enjoy a contemporary love story with a supernatural twist.

⭐ Finally, YA lit that isn’t about a dystopian society. Or brooding vampires. Or zombies who find their humanity. It’s a refreshingly original tale that really challenges you to think differently about relationships, and how they look to the people inside them. The mythology never goes too far “nerd.” The angst never tip-toes too closely to “emo.”Moms can share with their daughters (and sons!), and vice versa.A brilliant debut for all ages!

⭐ This premise had a lot of potential, but many of the cupid details weren’t fleshed out very well. The lead arrow/dead arrow/golden arrow/chip thing was pretty convoluted. There are some other details that needed further development, but I don’t want to spoil the ending by getting too specific. Also, a bit more character development might make me feel more invested in the love story.

⭐ I wish I could give this book double-ten stars. Here’s why: the story is told by two different and completely compelling narrators. It shows two views of love — one where it’s beautiful, and one where it’s painful. It shows humans to be both subject to the whims of the gods/fate/the universe, and it shows us the strength of free will and perseverance. And it does all this with a moving, beautifully portrayed story of love.More please!

⭐ Captivating read from the time I opened it, through all the twists, turns, & tugging at emotions all the way to the last page. I truly loved this book

⭐ What an amazing book!!! It gave me goose bumps throughout, very good ready. Easy to read and a good book for a vacation, sitting on the beach, sipping drinks with umbrellas, reading about love!!!!

⭐ A very enjoyable read. It held my interest throughout the entire book. I could not predict what was coming, which is always a bonus while reading any novel. I look forward to more from this author.Kathleen

⭐ Great Book. I know the authors mother and father.

⭐ At age 55, this novel is not targeted to my demographic but I enjoyed it and wished it had been a bit longer at the end (series?). Excellent first effort and I look forward to her future work!
