Description

In what could be his highest-profile mission ever, Dan ‘Spider’ Shepherd is called in to prevent the assassination of a head of state on British soil.

As an MI5 agent, Spider is used to going undercover, but when he’s asked to assume the identity of the contract killer hired to take out President Vladimir Putin, he knows he’ll become a wanted man.

And things are about to get more complicated: Spider is told that his MI5 controller and close friend Charlotte Button has been running an off-the-books assassination operation, taking vengeance on the men who killed her husband. Spider owes his life to Button – but this discovery will stretch his loyalty to the limit…

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ There is a LOT of exposition in this book. While there are three moderately interesting plotlines, the real purpose of this book is to develop character backstories, and move the characters off in a different directions. So, ultimately, this book is a chore to read, but necessary to understand the full arc of the Spider Shepherd character. But I have to say that when I realized what was happening 3/4 of the way in, I was not that happy about it. But onto book 13, and the hope that things in this series pick up.

⭐ Most books are rated/ reviewed on the totality of the book. Most of we readers have read books that ended so badly they destroyed any good feelings we developed while reading that book. This is a first for me, this is a really good book, that ended so great, it raised my opinion of the book so much I increased my rating from 4 to 5 stars, and to honest I’d have increased my rating to 6 stars were that an option.

⭐ This is without a doubt Stephen leather’s best book yet. He just gets better and better with every book he writes. He keeps the plot going and you sometimes have to force yourself to stop reading it because it’s that good. I only wish the his books would be readily available in book stores here in America. Placed right next to Grisham, baldacci, and Patterson.

⭐ Always enjoy this author, plenty of action & violence but always totally believeable & certainly not fanciful. He likes to give an insight into a world common people are unaware exists.

⭐ It will be interesting to see how book 13 pans out now spider and button are free from the restrictions of M15. Will spider and Charlotte become involved romantically or will he do the right thing and marry his au pair? Stephen Leather has a new Blank canvas on which to paint an ongoing popular series.

⭐ I have been an avid reader of Stephen Leather’s book for a number of years and have always looked forward to what is coming out, with this book he has surpassed himself. The story has multiple sub stories ranging from personal conflict to dealing with the very real, threat of urban terrorism.I think this book is the best he has written in a number of years , not only is it relevant but he manages to keep you on your toes from beginning to end, an excellent read.

⭐ Enjoyed the book until the end. Dan is in turmoil through most of this book. There are a lot of things going on and at times I got tired trying to keep up with all of it. However, that’s what kept me reading through the whole book at one sitting. Having worked in Law Enforcement for 24 1/2 years I faced some of the challenges in this book. I saw the bad guys get hardly nothing for their crimes if they were even prosecuted. I came in to Law Enforcement a believer in right and wrong and thank God I survived without loosing my belief in right and wrong. I finally retired early after watching crooked cops (not all of them), supervisors who were trying to stab you in and back and making your life more stressful than working the streets and last but not least the bad guys. A fellow officer told me early on that I was to honest to work in Law Enforcement. He wouldn’t elaborate but I remembered that all those years. Back then I didn’t understand why but when I retired I understood and just got tired of trying to maintain my integrity and the law I was sworn to uphold. Hope Dan is able to maintain his integrity because there are so few who do. It would be like hearing another officer (friend) had been found breaking the law and gone over to the dark side. Would I recommend this book? Heck yes! This author is an excellent writer, the plots are thought out very well and the characters are interesting and well developed.

⭐ Fun read

⭐ Another great storyline with non-stop action, suspense, and intrigue. Glad there are several more volumes for me to read soon .

⭐ After reading all Stephen Leather’s books over the last 12 month I left Black Ops until last – a great climax to 1 year of reading – excellent storyline, the usual strength in characters and strong plots – a great 5 star read!
