Review With style and gusto, Ruben Santiago-Hudson narrates this audiobook for BookShot, a new series of short works from James Patterson…Santiago-Hudson’s pacing and tone reflect the emotional stress of the characters, especially Cross’, as he struggles to find out who’s behind the attack…Santiago-Hudson gives depth to the drama as the search for a dead man involves many twists and turns. ⭐ I have read all of James Patterson books concerning Alex Cross and have enjoyed them a great deal. A “bookshot” is not a good idea to keep peoples interest in a character or in an author. When I read a book, the ending needs to be included. Waiting months for the continuation is frustrating and annoying. I do not believe any fan of an author cares for this type of question as to the final chapter and outcome. Mr. Patterson, please discontinue this writing method and go back to your tried and true way of writing an extremely good series of a very likable family and their lives. You can’t improve on an already wonderful and addictive story of the “Crosses.” Don’t mess with a good thing. If it ain’t broke, Don’t fix it. Sounds like something Nanna Mama would tell you too.

⭐ “Novels you can devour in a few hours” Sorry, Mr. Patterson. I find you, as you once described yourself in an interview, to be a decent writer and a great storyteller. However, in this endeavor you have failed. As the copy and pasted quote above states these “Book Shots” are being marketed as short novels (novellas). Novellas have beginings, middles AND ENDS. If this series/story is actually a serial and/or just a teaser for a future work, then it should be marketed as such. To market this as a complete, albeit short, work then give no ending isn’t a book shot, it’s a cheap shot to your fans.

⭐ Warning this is only 3/4 of a book! You are left hanging without a complete story. If this is to be the state of “bookshots” then the form will not last.

⭐ I was so looking forward to seeing these Bookshots be complete stories, like episodes on a tv show, NOT CLIFFHANGERS. Come on, Mr Patterson, do it right!!! I am one of your biggest fans, but am quickly losing interest in your work.

⭐ AWFUL!! DO NOT BUY!! IT STARTS OFF REALLY GREAT, JUST LIKE ALL OF HIS NOVELS. AT A CRUCIAL POINT IN THE STORY, YOU TURN THE PAGE AND THE STORY ENDS!! NO CLUE AS TO WHERE TO FIND THE ENDING OF THE STORY OR CONTINUATION. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS HALF OF THE BOOK TO READ.. WHERE IS IT??. THEN THERE IS THE BEGINNINGS OF ANOTHER STORY ABOUT THE GAL DETECTIVES. THIS TIME, I WAS AWARE. I SKIMMED AND SKIPPED TO THE END…ONCE AGAIN, THE STORY IS CUT OFF IN MID STREAM. FOOL ME ONCE, SHAME ON YOU, FOOL ME TWICE SHAME ON ME!! I WILL NOT BUY ANY OF HIS BOOKSHOT STORIES. SO DISAPPOINTED. IF I COULD GIVE LESS THAN A ONE STAR I WOULD. DON’T KNOW HOW HE COULD DO THAT TO US, FANS FOREVER!! WHERE IS HIS EDITOR?

⭐ This book ended abruptly, with an incomplete ending. This book is not worth the read. It reaches no solution, and leaves the reader exasperated. It’s a cliffhanger, which is very annoying. It doesn’t even tell you which book to read to find the solution to this story. This is one of Patterson’s very poorly done works, and an insult to his loyal readers of which I am one. However, after, reading this abomination, I no longer count myself as a loyal reader of anything James Patterson..

⭐ Although the story was pretty good and having read all of the “Cross” novels I was familiar with the characters. However, I was REALLY, REALLY DISAPPOINTED and angry!! I expected there to BE an ending but instead the reader is left with a “to be continued” ending. That would mean that you had to purchase another “BOOK SHOT” to keep the story going. How many “Book Shot” stories would one have to buy before there was a satisfactory ending? How is this NOT just a way for Patterson and Amazon to bring in a slew of money by leading the reader to believe these inexpensive little books are a “one shot”, complete story in and of themselves?Shame on you!

⭐ I’m fleshing out this review because this plot-line was the premise for the subsequent Patterson novel People VS Alex Cross. In my opinion, Cross Kill was totally unnecessary as this Book Shot’s plot line is fully developed in People VS Alex Cross. Cross Kill was nothing but an author’s thought process and an excuse to generate more money with a meaningless book that all Alex Cross readers would surely buy. Considering James Patterson’s self effacing Philanthropy, the readers have been used! The plot of Cross Kill was fine as far as it went and in line with what I find in all James Patterson Alex Cross books. But for ten bucks I didn’t expect it to end as suddenly as if a bomb had gone off as the writer got past the initial premise. This booklet does exactly that. It leaves you hanging in the middle of the story with no explanation or even a thank you for coughing up your hard earned cash for what turned out to be half of a book. I definitely feel cheated at the ending where Alex Cross is advised of his Miranda rights with no finish from that cliff-hanger and no hint about where to go for the rest of the story. Patterson is an excellent writer but that is no excuse to take advantage of his readers. I’ll never waste my money on another Patterson Book Shot!

⭐ I would not recommend a BookShot short story unless it is free. The ending just leaves you wanting more. My mistake, it will never happen again.

⭐ I was very disappointed in this book. It was brief and ended abruptly leaving the reader hanging. I understand that it is a BookShot and therefore not a true novel, but this book just ends without being finished, in my opinion. I have just reread the whole Alex Cross series in order, finishing with the BookShot. In the last few books the authors cannot seem to remember where Nana Mama’s bedroom is, nor how tall Alex and his best friend John Sampson are. That would not be so bad except the authors make the height of the two men important in every book. Nana Mama’s bedroom changes in one later book due to health issues then suddenly reverts to its former location even though the health issues are still there. Consistency is important to me when reading a series of books. Each individual book can be read without needing to read the others, but they are more interesting to read in order as they progress through several years of the lives of Alex and his family. They should remain consistent from one book to the next. All of that aside, I was very disappointed in this novella. The story line is good but not resolved. The ending occurs as though the authors wrote enough material to fill a certain number of pages and then just stopped. There are clues that the story will continue but it does not happen. Nothing is done with the information given to the reader to resolve the story line.
