Description

Energy and Mass in Relativity Theory presents about 30 pedagogical papers published by the author over the last 20 years. They deal with concepts central to relativity theory: energy E, rest energy E0, momentum p, mass m, velocity v of particles of matter, including massless photons for which v = c. Other related subjects are also discussed.According to Einstein’s equation E0= mc2, a massive particle at rest contains rest energy which is partly liberated in the nuclear reactions in the stars and the Sun, as well as in nuclear reactors and bombs on the Earth. The mass entering Einstein’s equation does not depend on velocity of a body. This concept of mass is used in the physics of elementary particles and is gradually prevailing in the modern physics textbooks. This is the first book in which Einstein’s equation is explicitly compared with its popular though not correct counterpart E = mc2, according to which mass increases with velocity. The book will be of interest to researchers in theoretical, atomic and nuclear physics, to historians of science as well as to students and teachers interested in relativity theory.

⭐The best of illustration of inconsistency of the “relative” mass and energy – is book by Lev B. Okun, “Energy and Mass in Relativity Theory”, World Scientific, 2009, 311p.First of all, Lev Okun is well known theoretical physicist, expert in the relativity theory, and the particle physics; by the way, he is author of name of class of particles – Hadrons.Book contains 30 works by Lev Okun, from 1968 to 2008. He has a lot works on Russian about mass and energy in relativity theory, especially in UFN, Russian physical journal. From his works we can see that in relativity theory mass is independent from velocity, in contrast to understanding a lot other physicist and professors of physics in dependency of mass from velocity; and Einstein’s formula e-equal-m-c-square – correct one from the four possible forms only. Almost all physicists do not understand the relativity theory, by Okun – this theory is understood a small group of physicists inside limited community of the physicists which study high energy physics.Obviously, Okun do not link this difference in understanding of main concepts of the relativity theory – mass and energy, – with inside contradictions of theory itself, but associates this with non-understanding of theory by community of physicists outside “small group of limited community of knowing physicists”.This book gives us, who are interested in physics, history of concepts mass, energy and their relations in relativity theory, and shows inside inconsistencies this theory.
