Description

Aliens, warships, battles, and a certain alien male were not in the carefully detailed plans Jo had for her life.

Manota Ja Kel Coradon is the second son of the ruling House of Kassis. He is known as the dark brother, and he lives up to his reputation. He has fought hard to protect his family and the people of Kassis, at times sacrificing parts of his soul to keep others safe, but even so, Manota was in total control of his life until one slender, feisty alien female crashes through the shields he has placed around his heart.

She is fearless and stubborn, absolutely refusing to cower before him, no matter how much he growls, and he is determined to claim her as his own. There is just one little problem – she will not accept his claim unless he returns to Earth for her parents.

And Jo’s parents won’t be the only ones coming back to Kassis – so is her entire circus family! Traitors, pirates, and Mimes are just the beginning of the surprises on this journey. Manota is about to learn that the prophecy foretold centuries ago is true. His mate is just as much a warrior as he is and she comes with backup!

Internationally acclaimed S.E. Smith presents a new action-packed story full of romance and adventure. Brimming with her signature humor, vivid scenes, and beloved characters, this book is sure to be another fan favorite!

From the Inside Flap A peek inside Jo’s Journey!Jo paused as they reached the eleventh floor. She and Star had a corner apartment not far from the stairwell. She pushed the door open and peeked into the hallway. She turned back and placed her hand on Manota’s chest. He wasn’t going to like this part, but she needed to get the door open to her condo and since she didn’t have her key with her, she was going to have to use the spare they had hidden in the huge potted plant near the elevator. The last thing she wanted was for him to use his ‘toy’ on her condo door. That would scream ‘break in’ and someone would call the police.”I have to get the key we hid,” she explained quietly. “I need you to stay here and wait for me to open the condo door. It is right across the hall from here. I’ll be right back,” she whispered.”Why can I not go with you?” he demanded, frowning down at her.Jo took a step back and looked at Manota. She saw a huge ass male bigger than any human, black leather, short military haircut, dark skin with muscles on top of muscles, a laser sword strapped to his hip, knives strapped to each massive forearm, more across his chest, a laser pistol on his other hip, and dark burning eyes that screamed alien! No, he was not going with her. The first neighbor to see him would be calling the Army, Air Force, National Guard, and God forbid, the NSA. No, it was safer for her to go alone.”Just – stay!” she said in exasperation, knowing he would not be happy either way. “I’ll be back in a flash.”

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ Jo’s world gets thrown in chaos when the lives of her sister and friend are almost over by the death threats that are over their heads. Also she is worried about her parents and what they must be feeling after their disappearance. She doesn’t know what to do and that is what keeps her from accepting Manota’s claim and love.Ajaska, Manota’s father, understands her fear of being alone in a strange world and orders his son to go with Jo back to Earth for her parents. That way Jo will feel better. When they reach Earth and meet with her parents, he is not prepare at all to meet all the other strange people that start converging in Jo’s apartment. When try are ready to leave Earth, Manota doesn’t expect to get all the circus members as guest in his ship. He doesn’t know how or when he lost control of his ship to this strange people.During the return to Kassis they are attacked by pirates and Jo’s life is threatened. Now he knows what his brothers felt when the other women where hurt.Back in Kassis they all developed a plan to trap Tai Tek (bad guy) and get rid of him for good. During the battle, River that is pregnant, starts labor and have a baby ….If you want to know more read the book to follow their adventures.

⭐ Book 3 builds on the two previous books in the Lords of Kassis series. This one is so much fun! It focuses on Manota- warrior and second born Lord, and his mate Jo- former flier for the circus. I like that although each book has a running theme with action, adventure and fun, each person’s character is well developed and unique, so you don’t get that ‘cookie cutter’ feel while reading. That is the beauty of S. E. Smith’s writing. Our heroes go to Earth to retrieve Jo’s parents but return with the whole circus! On an alien war ship. Add in space pirates, a new baby and a big top finale and you’ve got a really fun read. Of course there are deeply intimate moments that are for the 18+ crowd only.

⭐ I have to admit, I’m a sucker for circus in space stories ever since I read the Circus World books by Barry Longyear. That being said, the Lords of Kassis series has a lot more to offer than the circus acts. This is the third book in the series about River, Star and Jo, three earth aerialists kidnapped by space criminals. Rather than wring their hands and hoping for salvation, these women start kicking butt and not bothering to take names. Along the way, they rescue additional prisoners, kill a bunch of their captors and disable the ship on which they’re being held. They find their forever loves among the men they rescue, tough warrior brothers used to meek, compliant women from their homeworld. Not gonna happen with these women. Rather than backing down and changing their personalities because of the men in their lives, our heroines basically say ” Yeah, uh huh—-deal!”. These women are tough and more than capable of taking care of themselves and their warrior mates.Jo’s Journey takes her, and Manota (her mate), back to Earth to let her parents know what happened to the women. What a novel idea. How often do we see women traipsing off across the galaxy to find love and never thinking about the people searching for them at home? Her parents agree to return to Kassis and rejoin their daughters, which Manota expected. The complete circus also decides to come, which is definitely not expected. Soon Manota’s ship is overrun with circus animal, lion tamers, clowns, magic acts and the dreaded mimes. When it comes time to face down the villain of the series, Manota and the rest of Kassis learn what it means to be a part of a circus family.

⭐ While Star is dealing with Jazin and River and Torak are expecting their first child, Jo Strauss and Manota Ja Kel Coradon are traveling through space to Earth to pick up Jo and Star’s parents. When they arrive they find that they will be coming back not only with Jo’s parents but also with the entire Cirque du Magik circus! Some of the most eccentric humans on Earth meet aliens and hilarious chaos ensues. In addition we have a curious reporter, two detectives and a unconscious female in need of help. What else could go wrong? Oh yes, Let’s not forget the original threat from River’s Run and space pirates!Jo and Manota fall deeper in love with each other as they travel through space, and as they and the circus of eccentrics work together to finally finish the threat that hangs over their heads, there is hope that all of their troubles may finally be over. You will meet other characters that will be presented in future books in the series including: a curvy dog trainer, a Russian beauty who may or may not speak to wild cats, and a damaged Jane Doe, to only name a few.Pros:This books really embraces the comedy potential that comes along with a circus. The aliens are still tough and manly but so very literal which enables the humans to run circles around them, sometimes literally. There is minimal angst between Jo and Manota. Their troubles were slowly being figured out throughout books 1 and 2 of the series, so like in Star’s Storm it was mostly smoothing things out: tying up loose ends and finally taking care of the bad guy.Cons:As much as I love books that are low in angst I feel that this book went too smoothly. This was less a romance and more of a sci-fi comedy with a romantic element. I didn’t want Jo and Manota to be fighting all the time, but I feel as though not much attention was given to the main characters and their relationship. There were also some noticeable editing flaws; some sentences had an odd word order and there was even a verb missing in one. This is not the case through the majority of the book, but I noticed it enough that I felt the need to mention it.

⭐ Jo never thought that her life would end up like this. Living in a galaxy so far away from her home and family. She’s homesick and being away from her family makes her die a little inside.Manota has loved Jo from the moment he saw her. Her happiness is his main concern. He decides to go to earth and bring her parents back with him. Jo is ecstatic but Manota is nervous wreck, wondering if her parents will like him or not. He’s afraid that if they don’t then they might convince Jo to stay on earth and that’s not going to happen. What was suppose to be a simple retrieval turns into a hilarious space trip. Manota not only has Jo’s parents but the whole freakin circus ! ( Anything to make his mate happy) Things get tense when an old enemy goes after Manota and his family. But have no fear, the circus is here coming to the rescue.S E Smiths books are incredible . Her stories are full of humor, action and romance. I am really looking forward to Jarmen’s story.

⭐ When I pick up a S.E. Smith science fiction/female earthlings-in-space book I know simply to suspend my disbelief. And I enjoy every minute of it. This Kassis series has seen all kinds of action and now it is time for Jo and Manota to knock heads and fall in love. Meanwhile they are on a mission back to Earth to pick up her parents and, unknowingly, pick up an entire circus. What fun! And the evil people keep getting their much deserved karma, too. Great characters, kick butt women (of all species), alpha crazy males and animals from Earth. Delightful. BTW: ongoing sizzling kisses, etc. throughout.

⭐ I like how the storyline was wrapped up so nicely. The baddies have been defeated and it looks like all is well in the Kassisans’ world. A clever twist at the end makes you want to know more about Ajaska, rather than Risteard and Ricki, but perhaps Ms. Smith will get to it in one of the next books for this series. Only a couple of hitches got in the way of reading this series, the grammar, punctuation, and turns of phrase that get awkward while reading them. A little editing might be in order, but nothing too bad. Not like in some of her other books, like the Cosmos Gateway series. Overall, smooth flow and charming wit matched to even wittier banter makes this a rollicking good read. And it seems these books get better and better as they go along. Can’t wait to read the next!

⭐ Poor Jo. By the time we got around to her story we were at the redundant stage of the saga. She held out the longest before falling into bed with the 3rd brother and was more homesick than the other two sisters in books 1 & 2. But those were her only distinguishing characteristics. It would have been an OK story if not for the whole circus overload. I mean I can understand a lion, a clown and a fat lady (I could even volunteer for that role). But after the whole circus menagerie climbed on board a space ship, I just couldn’t invest myself in such a ridiculous premise. I mean you tell me – two weeks where a whole crap-load of people know they are leaving for the farthest reaches of the universe and someone doesn’t let it slip to their great-aunt Marigold (who of course pinky-promised to take the secret to her grave) that there is a friggin’ space ship in a Florida swamp? In today’s society everyone knows two minutes after a Kardashian gets knocked up. Like there’s really going to be a way to hide interplanetary U-Haul action? Elephants and all? No. Can’t buy it. Well, actually I did buy it. The book that is. And regretted it. The author just took it one step too far for me. Pity.

⭐ Could not wait for the much anticipated third book in the Lords of Kassis series and it was worth the wait!S.E. Smith’s unique world of Kassis takes an exciting, fun and imaginative twist in Jo’s Journey. The comedy in Ms.Smith’s books leads to many chuckles and helps bring a light moment to some of the suspence and action. Scenes. The details given to her characters physical as well an emotional makeup makes you feel like you know them intimately. The descriptive settings and storyline enhances the experience of these amazing books. There is of course the awesome romance , sensual and sexy scenes that makes you wish you were one of the heroines (definitely feeds our fantasies and why not!).Lots of suspense, action and adventure in this book as in the others but the addition of Jo’s circus performing family on an alien world is a unique experience. I could not imagine when I read the preview chapters and snippets show circus performers where going to fit into the warrior world of Kassis. To my surprise they were a special and major part of the story showing us that you can never underestimate where love, strength, bravery and loyalty will show up. The circus characters and their funny antics where just so different I still can’t get over the imagination it took to add them to the storyline and make them fit into it so perfectly and numerous.y.The evolving relationship between Manota and Jo finally blossoms is as romantic and steamy as with her sister’s stories. Ms.smith as always has the most hunky, brave, sexy and possessive heroes that as with all hunky alien men have their possessive, stubborn and macho sides. Was so happy to finally get the third book in the series I read it wiihin two days, now we have to wait for the next book which already sounds like it will be another winner.I am thrilled that I discovered S.E. Smith and her amazing, sexy hot, romantic and don’t forget fun and adventurous books. Can’t wait for more.

⭐ Subjectively, it feels as if I’ve waited FOREVER for the third story of the prophesied female warriors. Objectively, it’s only been a bit over 2 years since River’s Run and 9 months since Star’s Storm. (FOREVER). But, Jo’s story is finally here and I celebrated its arrival by racing through it non-stop. Now I have the pleasure of going back and re-reading slowly to catch more details, interact with new and old characters and hope that the next book is 9 months or less away.Jo and Manota’s story doesn’t disappoint. Scenes with the two together scorch the page. Manota immediately recognizes that they belonged together and eventually so does Jo. Each also realizes that some major compromises are needed for them to stay together and thus Jo’s Journey begins. Nonstop action, an interesting plot, memorable characters, suspense, humor…as always these are constants in an S.E. story. The trek to meet and move Jo and Star’s parents doesn’t go as smoothly as Manota hopes. For friendship and adventure, Cirque de Magik members decide to take the show “offworld” and things will never be the same for them or the universe. Glimpses and interactions with circus members become an enjoyable, anticipated aspect of the story. The Kassians first visit to the circus is particularly delightful. And, of course, the villains have their plans.Reading River and Star’s stories is not required to enjoy this story but recommended. Major plot threads running through the first three books are resolved but new surface to take their place. As always, characters from previous books appear as do future heroes and heroines. Definitely looking forward to Riki and Risteard’s story followed by others, like Katarina and Ajaska. While you wait for book 4, Ristéard’s Unwilling Empress (Go Ricki!), and if you’re not quite ready to leave the circus back on Kassis and return to reality, Rescuing Matti is available to continue the magic for just a bit longer.cross-posted amazon, goodreads, shelfari
