Description

Mickey and Mark Moore are Ordinary Decent Criminals – hard men who live by their own code and leaders of a gang that has made millions at the point of a gun.

But when Dan ‘Spider’ Shepherd is sent to infiltrate the tightly-knit team of bank robbers, he discovers that he has more in common with them then he first thought. And that perhaps being a career criminal isn’t the worst thing in the world.

As Shepherd and his Serious Organised Crime Agency colleagues plot the downfall of the Moore brothers, a more sinister threat stalks the streets of London. A group of home-grown Islamic fundamentalist fanatics embark on a campaign of terror the like of which Britain has never seen. Car bombs and beheadings are only the prelude of what they have planned.

And Shepherd is the only man who can stop them.

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ Dan Shepherd is sanguine about firing a missile into a group of Asians to explode them into parts, but will not countenance you calling them “Pakis.” He will seduce the widow of a murdered police officer to get a lead on a vigilante, then dump her as soon as the mission is complete, but feels bad about developing evidence to put armed robbers behind bars because they are ordinary decent criminals. He loathes an American assassin who uses torture to find evidence against terrorists, but is willing to use the evidence and protect the source, even if it means he himself gets sacked. And he knows he needs to spend more time with his son, but he just enjoys the undercover skullduggery too much to quit. Spider’s lectures get tiring, but are easily skipped over and he is a walking bundle of cognitive dissonance, but the action and background information of the capers are pretty entertaining. Recommended

⭐ I am reading the whole series of the Shepherd book, and When reaching number 6, I was almost expecting to be disappointed, because I thought I’ve seen it all already, how wrong was I! This book is another great addition to the series. Stephen Leather is taking great care in trying to do something a bit different in each book, which shows he is taking care of his readers. This book is probably the most camp of the series. It takes place for the most part in Thailand where Spider is undercover infiltrating a bunch of “old school” British criminals, who are living it large in Thailand. There is another parallel plot involving terrorist wannabees preparing a secret attack. It is all very well written: there is an excellent build up of both plots, which are colliding with each other toward the end in a very explosive fashion.. I will say no more about the storyline. Overall very good fun to read. Perhaps my only complaints are the rather prudish behaviour of Spider at times considering he is single for a while now, so how could he possibly resist some of the female attraction. The role of his sidekick Razor is underwritten as I felt he could have been given a more important role (he pretty much just spends his time getting drunk and enjoying massages… perhaps more.. in this one). There is also some unfinished sub-plotting, as his former maid/nanny who had to go back to Eastern Europe due to her father’s death, doesn’t really get developed too much (but I assume this is dealt with in more details in the next book). Lastly, one could say this installment is a tad sexist, and there could have been a strong female character somewhere.

⭐ Writing reviews of Stephen Leather, books gets difficult as I tend to make the same comments, excellent, this is such a story and is quite current. Leather seems to be able to grasp the moment and run with it. This book is full of action but is more involved with criminal community rather than military, again this book does carry yourself along with fast moving plot. Again two books in one which come together. However without detracting from the story and action as with any of his books in which are set in Thailand. This book could also be described as an honest travel experience in Pattya Thailand and an accurate advert for that town. People who have never visited Pattya may think the description is far fetched but it is in fact very accurate. For this story set in criminal fraternity it is a good setting but is not isolated to Thailand and covers a lot of travel at very short notice to other countries. Perhaps the end of this book is quite thought provoking and leaves two options open to Spider does he continue to work for SOCA or does he throw his lot in with Yokely whose character has shown up in previous stories but is a strong and memorable character and I am sure he will appear in other forthcoming books. This was a very strong hard to put down novel which was easy to pick up and memorise all of story and characters

⭐ Another Excellent Read as all his volumes have been. This volume was slightly harder to follow two separate actions going on simultaneously. I would have enjoyed it more if each action group was written in separate chapters instead of constantly changing paragraphs. Still enjoyed it !!

⭐ Very exciting kept my interest throughout. Was hard to put the book down sometimes. I’ve never read a spy story that had two different plots going on at the same time and were intertwined throughout the whole book.

⭐ Great series – as fresh as the headlines of today’s paper. I am reading this series in order and know so much about Spider! There is always a twist in Leather’s books. I love being fooled by a writer —- a great, quick read. Read these in order — then, you will know all the past history and the players.

⭐ Enjoyed the storyline immensely, however some parts were a bit slow to get into. Love the British humor and overall a good read

⭐ always an outstanding story

⭐ What more can I say………….Stephen NEVER lets you down. Just as enthralling as ever. Now I’m waiting for the next Spiders web!!!

⭐ Exactly what I expected!
